I'm glad that Oden was able to feast on Malik Allen, Charlie Villanueva, and Dan Gadruic. It's a game that he should have played well in and he did. I just hope that this is enough to boost his confidence to take on the Ilgauskas' and and Okafor's of the world.
Yeah... it's basically worthless when you look at it for one game or even tens of games. But it's not worthless when you look at alot of games (multiple seasons worth) as then it becomes a very good stat, it being pretty much the only stat that accounts for just about every facet of play (offsense, defense, intangibles, etc.)
the good news is ilguakis (big z) is out for our game vs cle. A. Varejao will start at center and oden should dominate him. ben wallace howeve rmight match up with oden. obvioulsy lebron will get his 30+ but if we can contain wally and gibson from the outside...we have a small chance
I can see what you're saying, mostly I was just trying to bitchslap another poster who likes to keep posting +/- to support his mancrush on Sergio on a game-by-game basis.
it's absolutely worthless with a small sample(like one game) or when you don't take circumstances into account. it has some value though over the course of a season as long as other things are taken into consideration. there are much much better ways to evaluate players though.
i would disagree with it being very good. it can be useful, but you have to account for who they normally end up on the court with(a blazer that gets his minutes with roy/aldridge is going to have a much better +/- that one who gets more minutes when those guys are out, etc) and things of that nature.
Why wouldn't you post till Monday if the Blazers beat the cavs? That's the best time to post as that has got to be a boost of adrenline for any Blazer fan . . . unless of course you're not a Blazer fan????????
Yes, but I was assuming that those factors would be taken into account when I said that, and they can be. It is possible with multiple seasons of data to take into account who is playing with who (linear regression). But to quote it for one game is insanity.
As do I. We need that aggressiveness from our SG's. The fouls were obvious and come from trying too hard. He needs to let it come to him.
Nice win . . . the Blazers needed that after that game in Charlotte. Roy is going to have to show up against the power teams, but it is nice to know the team can get it done without him. Overall I feel much better when Roy is in control and on his game. He controls the game on both sides and the team has a more consistent flow to it . .. but a lot of good in this game, without Roy needing to do his thing and Aldridge on the bench during the 4th . . . I think this team is starting to mature.
Yeah, that didn't work out so well for you, this time anyway. I only post it, and the score, because they are usually an indicator of how that person AND THE PLAYERS OUT THERE WITH HIM performed as a group. Because what you want froma PG is for him to get the entire team playing well. Obviously, as has been pointed out many times, if you're out there with Frye and Diogu your +/- might be much different than if you're out there with Joel and LaMarcus. Since he plays mostly with Roy, Bayless's should improve considerably. If you have a great +/- consistently with scrubs, you're probably the real deal, because you are raising the level of their play. I rarely don't care about the stats and +/- but some folks here keep throwing them out there so I respond in kind. I look for a smooth-flowing offense, lots of guys in double-figures, and an advantage in assists and steals.
Really? From the stands, he looked very subpar and yes I saw his stats. He jacked up way too many 3's, dribbles the hell out of the ball too often, and got checked numerous times. He is pretty much useless unless there is a fast break scenario, which we rarely do. Its like trying to stick a trapezoid into a circle, just not working.
