I believe Foley was a republican, a party known for its intolerance of anything other than missionary position heterosexual sex, so he had the hypocrisy problem to deal with that Clinton and Adams don't. barfo
So being in the closet isn't being a hypocrite. Gotcha. Or the lying about it for a year doesn't make him one. Hrm.
So the lie is ok. He was elected under false pretenses. But I suppose you could argue that Pelosi and the whole bunch of Democrats did likewise in 2006 so there's precedent. I wouldn't argue.
Pelosi lied about gay sex with an intern? That would be sort of interesting, if true. And I'm not excusing Adams for lying about it - although I personally don't find lying about sex particularly terrible or unusual behavior. He did the "crime", he'll have to do whatever "time" the electorate decides upon. barfo
I think she lied about forcing the president to bring the troops home, for one. Seems like a bigger deal than any politician/intern scandal. There was also the pay as you go thingy, yet here we are with a > $1T deficit. What did she promise would be done in the first 100 hours? I don't remember, it doesn't seem to have been good for much. A big part of their win was due to the Foley scandal, "culture of corruption" and all that. And the press went to town with it.
Eh, whatever. I don't much care for or about Pelosi, unless she's having illicit sex. That would be important. All that other stuff is irrelevant. barfo
That's one of the most hatefully innaccurate homophobic rants I've seen for quite awhile. You must be proud.
He's 18, right? So who cares. This just smells like people coming up with any reason to rail on a homosexual.
no, it would stil be a scandal if the mayor was not gay. As I stated, it would probably be worse, in fact.
The Mayor doesn't run as a party candidate, nor do commissioners or city council members. Sam shoulda just told his most recent story before the election, because he would have won the election anyway, and this would be old news.
yeah lets. foley, who made it his work to rid the nation of child predators, only to be caught doing exactly that. adams, an openly gay mayor, whom until otherwise proven, had sex with an adult. good point, thanks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Foley My understanding was that Foley was sexually harassing male interns who were not interested in him (or even gay) and that this had been going on for years. He was not openly gay himself and portrayed himself as a hetero family man... hell, you do know about some of the laws he championed right? Dude was very hypocritical. I'm not saying that Adams is innocent of breaking the law which may end up rightfully costing him his career and then some, but I don't see the direct parallels that you're implying let alone the laughable paranoia that the local press is protecting one of their own. I expect to see this on the front page of the O for weeks because it's going to sell a lot of papers to the curious. STOMP
A homosexual mayor who diddles with teenage boys? What's the big deal? Politics as usual in loony Portland.
The Multnomah County D.A. office just announced they are opening an investigation to see whether Adams had sex with the teenager while Breedlove was a minor. Is the mayor of Portland a pederast?
Some of you really need to read the story. It goes beyond having sex with an 18 year old, who was underage when they met, while being a 42 year old politician. It's even worse because they magically waited a few days after he turned 18 to do the deed, yeah right. This and that all goes to the back seat when he abused his power to keep people involved quiet. Tarnished the political career of another person because he made other people into liars when, in turn, he is the liar. There is also the matter of him getting the kid a job (with no experience), and hiring the reporter from the Mercury that originally was reporting on this story. The real problem is he violated and abused public trust. This would be a non issue if he just said "yes i tapped that" when it came up a few months ago.
I'm not sure that's the whole story. Robert Ball was going around telling this story with the apparent intention of hurting Adams chances of getting elected (and thus helping himself get elected). He's not exactly an innocent bystander, as I understand it. barfo
I think ADP brings up a good point, could you imagine if this was some male politican (in their late 30s) who waited on a a 17 year old girl to become 18 and then has sex with her. Some call that being responsible . . . I call it grooming. If that was my son or daughter, I would pissed. As far as having sex with an 18 year old and lying . . . it happens. The timing on this is obviously thought out. After the election but soon enough wehre it shouldn't be a factor in the next election. Well played Sam . . .
