<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Philadelphia Inquirer - The U.S. Olympic Committee, headed by managing director Jerry Colangelo, has sent out contracts to 22 NBA players, 2 college players, and 1 high school player. And sources indicate Allen Iverson, despite publicly and privately expressing his desire to be a member of the team, is not one of the select few recieving one of those contracts.Instead he is about to recieve a letter thanking him for his interest. As one of the sources stated: "We tried to make the letters as appreciative and professional as possible. The idea was to try and bring people down softly."Iverson, who has not yet recieved formal confirmation of this decision, has nonetheless heard the rumors. His response was simple: "Thanks for considering me," he said. "Now, I get to spend time with my kids in the summer."The 25 invitees will be announced by Colangelo and U.S. head coach Mike Krzyzewski, this Sunday, live on ABC.</div>http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/393...ay_for_us_team/
Hasn't he been on the team like every Olympic year since he's been in the league? He is one of the best in the league, he NEEDS to get an invite. The U.S. Olympic Committee needs to reconsider their decision.
I don't really see that big of a problem, he was the leader of the 04' team that got owned, a change is never a bad thing.
Larry Brown was the reason. He's also the reason that the Knicks look as hopeless as they are. The man is overrated as a coach, and I lose respet for him daily.
Iverson was one that played with heart in 04. He really wants to be on this team and deserves to be on it. I wonder what there reasoning for him not being invited is?
Well, Bryan colangelo (however you spell it) is picking the players, right? I think he wants this team built off of unselfish play, like the suns. He's recruiting mostly young players, and i think Iverson will appreciate a summer off anyways.
The team got embarrased the last time around and they wanted to take a different route and try something else. Players like Marbury and Iverson are left of the list this time and names like Ridnour, Battier and Josh Howard pop up. I personally like what they are doing. They are building a team that will perform as a team, not a group of the best players who will not necessarilly mesh together...Another thing, the olympics arent for another four years, AI will be how old in 2008?
how old will iverson be when the olympics come around??i also believe Colangelo is building this team with young up and coming players.....but it is sad in a way not to have Iverson.....he has the biggest heart and is one of the greatest competitors i've ever seen
Yeah Iverson at 35 is not a good thing since he relies a ton on speed. He is undersized and underweight but is one heck of a competitor though USA needs the best player available so they can win it. Billups and Wade are it I feel.
