IMO, leaving Batum as a starter makes little sense. While he has some good defense, I think having Martell as a 3 point threat early on will ease things up for every guy on the floor offensively....and he's not a defensive liability....he plays fine defense for the position.
I'm fine with Marty returning, but am not losing any sleep on it. Batum has been a fine stop gap SF and he is getting experience. I perfer Travis at the 4 anyways. Sergio/Bayless, Rudy,Marty,Trav, Thrilla is a sick bench unit. On the other hand, I won't be too upset if we deal him, because it is frustrating to watch him sometimes. You can tell he has so much more talent, but it just isn't showing up on the court.
From the O-Live blog... Running by March? That's basically the end of the season.. I don't know if Martell will ever play and have an impact this year when it was originally just 4 weeks back in November/December. Hopefully the guy just gets right for next season after that extension we gave him.
Quick said in his chat that the new boot got fitted yesterday and comes off the day of the DAL game, so he probably won't make that trip. Figure a couple of weeks to get his wind back? That puts him at the All-Star break.
Dude shot 38% from deep last year while the Blazers are shooting 37% collectively without him. Without him they are one of the top 3 point shooting teams in the league and he brings little else to the table. I don't see him as the missing piece, I see him as the redundant piece. STOMP
I'm summerizing every post on this thread: - Every Blazer player has weaknesses, therefore they all suck. - Trade them all. - A team that doesn't consist of 12 All-Star Hall of Famers is a disappointment. - My mommy didn't hug me enough as a child.
- Nate can do no wrong - Standing pat always works for teams - Fans can't be critical of troubling patterns that lead to repeated lapses in offense & defense
I had heard he was being targeted for after the AS break, but Quick would have better sources than I.
I'll need more then a single good performance in a blow out preseason game against a depleted Kings team to overcome the impression of 3 seasons. disagree with all of that. I really want him to be a decent defender, so far he's been a matador. It's my best guess that other Blazer fans beside me would want additional talented guards/wings on the roster besides Brandon, why wouldn't they? I'd rate the odds of just about every guard and wing on the roster becoming the guy you describe before Martell, but here's hoping he or someone steps up and becomes that all around competent guy.
