How scary . . . Kells is a hang out for us old guys. I didn't think there was gang activity downtown on that side of burnside. This will make me rethink hanging out at Kells . . . maybe not, but still . . . no more shooting near my watering hole please . . .
Glad I didn't go to the game last night. I park right around that area and take the max over the bridge. Usually spend an hour at Ash St before the game, and an hour at Ankeny's after the game, both of which are one block from Kells. That is a really safe part of town. I never have problems down there. That sucks. But it won't stop me from going down there. Fuck those idiots.
Kells and McCormick's are the only places the wife and I really know downtown, so we head there before/after games we come down to. Gang- or drug-related, or someone having a bad day and inflicting it on others?

I wonder if he couldn't get into the nightclub. As sorry as it sounds, I remember when I was underaged and used to go to the Quest. Every once in a while, I remember that they wouldn't let older guys into the club (it was a "16 and over" club back in the day) and they were the worst kind of loosers...like 25 year olds and shit trying to get into a dance club for 16 and 17 year old chicks.
It's more tragic when you actually know people who get hurt, that's for sure. A girl I know fell asleep at the wheel last week and drove her car off a small cliff somewhere near Portland (don't know location). She broke her hand, pelvis, back, foot, had 100 stitches on her forehead, and was found after she'd been outside in 20 degree weather for like 7 hours. It's a miracle she survived...and it hits home because I used to live right next door to her. Another buddy of mine was killed by a drunk driver about two months ago. Sad times. At least we're lucky that the shooting was a rare type of crime we don't usually see here...but I've been to Kels before and have friends that go there quite a bit. It's crazy to think about how fast life can really change. Puts perspective into someone who is just slightly depressed because of his current employment situation.
It was part of a send-off party for exchange students and adults were there. I'm not understanding your humor on this one. It was a random and ugly incident.
Are you understanding my humor on other ones? Sure, it was a random (apparently, anyway) and ugly (certainly) incident. I'm not claiming otherwise. barfo
Not everything is a joke. But one can make a joke about anything. But if it offends you, don't laugh. barfo
