same excuses you here around here.....we are too young and "we will" be good. its funny cause for a team thats gonna be so good, you would think they could scratch teh playoffs. Chris Paul gets his team there....but roy and aldridge cant? bad excuses. maybe its time someone said that maybe we aren't as good as most had hoped...talent wise.

anyway, he says suns and mavs will fight for 8 spot.

I didn't bother to listen to his analysis, and I disagree with his conclusion, but I can understand why someone would pick the Blazers to be the team to miss out. Blazers are the youngest team and the most suseptible to hitting a team wall in the 2nd half. Also, one could argue they don't have the experience to know what it takes down the stretch of the season to make the playoffs.

But Blazer talent will overcome these factors . . .

I wonder if Mixum would ever post a positive quote or link. We could win the title and he'd still bitch about how next year we won't repeat.

It's probably not widely known, but MIXUM is a being made of dark matter, if he were ever to mix with anything positive, the space time continuum would collapse and the known universe would implode. I don't know about you, but I rather just go ahead and postpone the apocalypse for just a little while longer.

Hate to say it, but the man has a point. Read any thread about potential trades, and it is painfully obvious that many Blazer fans have an inflated view of the value of our players. This roster does need tweaking.

Sure, but not just for the sake of doing it. I just envision this year as a REALLY LONG preseason for next year and beyond. A trade consolidating will be made but it doesnt HAVE to be by this trade deadline...the offseason would work too.

Nobody except the biggest homers expected the Blazer to be a legitimate contender this year. They are actually ahead of schedule IMO.

Who's making excuses? Kenny Smith? Who the fuck cares? The Blazers aren't making excuses - they fully plan on being in the playoffs and so do most of the posters on this board. Just because you're assuming the worst doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Of coarse there is a chance the Blazers don't make the playoffs. There are more analysts picking the Blazers to make the playoffs then not. I think Mixum would have posted more if there would have been more predicting the Blazers to be the odd team out. I'm not going to search for everyone's playoff predictions but have heard many say we are going to make the playoffs. I think we will still be a 6th-8th seed but anything is possible with 9 good teams.

There's a ridiculous "us versus them" mentality on this board. Some of you really need to get a clue. Kenny Smith has nothing against the Blazers, he's just calling it the way he sees it. We're not the victims of some NBA-wide conspiracy, and Smith has nothing personal against the Blazers. If any of us were sitting in his chair, we might even see things the way he does.

    John Hollinger disagrees.

He has the Blazer's odds of making the play-offs at 95.5%. That's right behind the Rockets at 96% and ahead of the Jazz at 82.9% and well ahead of Phoenix (69.9%) and Dallas (58.2%).

The conservative bet is to say that the "proven" teams - Lakers, Spurs, Rockets, Jazz, Hornets, Nuggets, Suns, and Mavericks will the teams to make the playoffs.

But there are three teams that the Blazers are better than, at this point.

The Rockets are dealing with injury problems to their three best players, and that could easily be their downfall.

The Jazz have been dealing with the injury bug all season, and have been downright bad on the road.

The Suns just lost big to the Charlotte Bobcats and have lost three in a row.

I would give all four teams (the teams listed above + the Blazers) all a good chance of sitting out the post-season. I would disagree with Kenny, that the Blazers are the most likely of the nine contenders to miss. But it's no means a lock for Portland, either.

As a linguistics major, you should know that's a dangling modifier. It should read, "As a linguistic's major, I get a headache from mixum's posts."

    But I understand your point.

I believe it's hoojacks who is the linguistics major. It's a confusing sentence, to be sure, which is why I objected to it.

i don't know if hollinger agrees or not, but he personally doesn't have the blazers odds of making the playoffs at 95.5%. his playoff odds formula does, but (unless i'm mistaken) his playoff odds formula doesn't take into account injuries or things of that nature and is all just based on how the teams have played statistically.

i'm almost certain if you were to ask hollinger about his playoff odds, he'd say they were a good tool to use in determining which teams are likely to make the playoffs but they don't represent the full picture of his views on the playoff picture.
