    Yes please!

Salmons is not an all-star, but he's a very effective mid-range shooter, decent from the perimeter, good rebounder, good defender and pretty damn solid.

He's also the most effective when he has the ball in his hands. That might conflict with Roy.

Plus I have a hard time thinking that we'd end up with 4 players at the SF spot.

Talk about not expecting John Salmons, but I think we make good if we give Raef/pick for Salmons and Mikki Moore

He could really help alleviate the problem of slow offensive starts for this squad. I'd rather take Mikki Moore back than Kenny Thomas though. He could probably play a little PF off the bench.

There better be another trade or we really will have a log jam with playing time. I do think this would be a good trade but also worry about Salmons and Roy playing together.

Oh yeah I would much rather have Mikki Moore. I sort of like his game but not sure where he would get any PT.

Re: John Salmons Deal in the woks?

I watched him play a fair amount last year and I don't remember Salmons being a ball dominant guy at all. I think this year he might have been asked to be more of a creator because Martin went down for so long and frankly the rest of that team is either pretty forgettable or extremely young.

as for ending up with 4 small forwards, I'm guessing that if the deal does go down then somebody is probably on their way out this summer ... also I'm not sure we can really say at this point that Travis is a small forward?

He averages 3.4 assist (on a brutal team), so he's not a complete back hole. He's learned how to coexist Kevin Martin lately.

Re: John Salmons Deal in the woks?

On the one hand I was hoping we could use the RLEC to get a bonafide star like Gerald Wallace or Caron Butler, because I really doubt we are gonna have the cap space to get one any other way. On the other hand, I get the feeling that Portland doesn't want to give up either Rudy or Travis (and I for one would feel somehow bad if they did trade either). Given that, I think that Salmons is maybe the best we can do and we should do it. I agree with everything Nikolokolus had to say about Salmons.

Also, I don't think it hurts to stockpile good players; since we won't be able to outright sign a big free agent in 2009, 2010, they could be used in a sign and trade. This will give us even more time to evaluate some of our current young guys. And Salmons is still young enough to be effective for a few years.

If we are hearing about it, I have a hard time believing its going to happen.

I also don't know how he would fit in w/ the team. Seems to me his only really good skill is scoring, and we got players like that in Roy, and then Outlaw, Rudy and JErryd on the bench.

But I trust KP for sure.

Re: John Salmons Deal in the woks?

According to Draft Express, he first built his reputation as a defender and they still consider him a good defender: "Defense: A very good defender who can defend the perimeter very effectively. Has the size, length and strength to match up with almost anybody. Plays with good intensity, which helps him use his athleticism better than the average player. Displays good lateral quickness when denying penetration, but can be beaten off the dribble. Stays in front of his man and tries to contest everything. Fights through screens. Will make some plays by anticipating passes and getting deflections. Blocks some shots too. Very capable rebounder for his position. Just a solid all around defender."

I prefer this deal in the woks rather than in the works. Throw some garlic, ginger and soy sauce on it and send it away. Blech.

Re: John Salmons Deal in the woks?

he's a 29-year-old career 6th/7th man who's never been known as a great defender or rebounder having a breakout offensive season as a starter on a terrible fast-tempo quick-shooting team that plays zero defense. take away a lot of his minutes and most of his shots and i don't see how he helps us.

also 82games rates moore as the worst player on one of the worst teams in the league. neither guy is expiring and salmons is inked through 2011.

if we can't do better than that i'd rather just let raef walk.

No; it's what I heard. I heard that there was a smoking gun in regards to Memphis and Portland; that Wallace tried to force us to trade him Outlaw.
