Kevin Martin would have been an interesting trade target, since he's having a down year, perhaps he'd have been attainable, if Portland traded Outlaw and Raef and took back Kenny Thomas in addition to Martin. I'd even have been willing to trade Fernandez instead of Outlaw.

Unfortunately, Martin is BYC, so pretty difficult to trade for.

Interesting . . . thanks for the info.

I agree that KP puts extra weight on character guys, and with this team I think that's great.

I was thinking the worst thing for this team is a disgruntled semi-star player that comes here by way of trade and the team starts to lose. A josh Howard sounds great if things are all good, but if the Blazers lose and fingers start pointing . . . I would hate to hear Howard's off the record comments to teammates ("this is bullshit man, management doesn't know anything, you got take care of your own interests . . ." I don't know if Howard, per se, would say all this but that is who comes to mind as potential problem in the locker room.)

I never would have guessed Salmons isn't a good lockerroom guy. He has talent, but not a star and on a bad team . . . is guy like that allowed to have an attitude in the locker room?

That's the point. There was no drop-off in ability.

There was a drop-off in PRODUCTION because he came to a better team and it was revealed that he was padding stats playing with inferior players. Not his fault. Just a fact.

1080 said that the Blazers made the offer of Raef and a future pick for Salmons...FWIW

Not a horrible deal, but Salmons to me is a duplication of Webster. I assume Martel will be back in 3-4 weeks. Not exactly "consolidating"

    John Salmons/Travis Outlaw/Nicolas Batum/Martell Webster

There has to be another move, that's a massive log jam.

I don't really see the comparison to Webster.

Webster is a set shooter for the most part. Salmons can shoot off the dribble.

The comparison is in their overall production, not their styles. Both are similarly productive reserve-level players, outside of this season. Salmons plays better defense, but Webster is much younger and might have some upside left.

Salmons would likely not represent much, if any, upgrade on Webster.

The pick better be a 2nd rounder.

Mike Rice and Mike Barret on courtside said they didn't think this was coming from Portland, and that it was just Geoff Petrie or Salmon's agent trying to get his name out there

Well, our list of suitors is getting smaller now with the Gerald Wallace injury tonight. I guess this trade becomes "more likely" considering a better player was wiped off the trade table with a rib injury.

At this point it seems like Salmons trade talks is mostly talk from Sactown and not so much from Portland.

The interesting thing is if we are trying to upgrade our SF spot by the deadline, who else is left besides Salmons and the now injured Michael Redd and Gerald Wallace. As bad as the Wiz have been this year it doesn't seem likely that they would initiate a fire sale and trade their most productive player, Caron Butler.

Who else is left to go after besides Salmons, who isn't untouchable and is a moderate upgrade over Webster/Batum/Trout?

    Maggette?
    Deng?
    Jamison?

One report coming out is that the Kings want Bayless in the Salmons & Moore for Raef & draft pick deal. That's got to be a joke right?

There's speculation that owner Herb Kohl might be looking to unload the team after the latest disaster of losing Redd. Maybe getting RJ off the books and getting some young players back would be smart financial move in that scenario.

Why do you doubt that they're going to have the cap space? If they hold onto Raef allowing him come off their own cap and renounce the rights to Channing, Ike and either Blake or Outlaw, they will have max type dollars available. This could be used to sign a FA (doubtful) but it could also be utilized in a trade where Portland receives more $$$ back then they send out.

Salmons is OK... he's just a shade smaller then Martell in height and wingspan but he'd easily be the Blazers best SF option this year. He's a pretty decent athlete and has good all around skills. I'm hoping they do better, but I wouldn't be upset if they went this way.

Hmm.. Raef and Bayless for Salmons and Moore? No thank you. not interested at all.

I actually am not a fan of Salmons for us at all, specially after hearing that Kings fans dislike him because he dominates the ball and isn't the best teammate.
