Damn, thats too bad for Wallace. I haven't seen the clip so i will refrain from bashing Bynum as of right now.

Maybe two but I honestly dont think so. IMO there was no attempt to injure.

To back my argument I offer the TJ Ford case

    link

Al Horford got a one game suspension.

Now if you want to argue that players should be suspended longer for these types of incidents thats for another thread, but basing it on what the NBA has done before this warrants a one game suspension

My God. You can hear him writhing in pain.

Elbow to the ribcage when Wallace is in such a vulnerable position? Dick move by Bynum regardless of whether or not he really wanted to injure Gerald.

Yeah...that was gnarly when I first heard him doing that. Im bummed for him :sigh:

I think the best view is the replay at the 50sec mark.

Obvious flagrant but IMO Bynum wasnt intentionally putting an elbow into his side, just a hard foul on somebody who was about to get a free dunk late in the game. The elbow just happened. :dunno:

I may be biased, but there certainly doesn't appear to be a whole lot of intent of going after the ball on Bynum's behalf.

Fortunately Bynum didn't foul Wallace with blatant aggression, so his punishment should be limited. My guess is he will get 1-3 games with a fine for the foul, along with a growing reputation for throwing dirty hits on higher-profile players on opposing teams.

Doesn't look like he was intending to hurt Wallace. It's not a great angle though.

Why did Bynum use the elbow part of his arm, why not his arms outstretched? Even if Bynum had used his arms outstretched and hitting Wallace in the face it wouldn't be a fragrant foul. Its kindof a weird motion to foul the guy.

My take is Bynum was definitely trying to foul hard, but that's basketball. It was flagrant for sure. I don't think it was a cheap shot tho, Bynum was trying to not hurt himself in the process.

fuck the lakers, and fuck that foul, you dont just put your elbow up into someone driving into the lane like that; you can tell he wasnt even trying to make a play for the ball...

the dude should be out for 5-games minimum.

    fucking dirty ass lakers.

I can't figure out how he would have a collapsed lung without his rib being broken? I wouldn't be surprised if he plays tonight.

Bynum reminded me of Bill Laimbeer or Rick Mahorn on that move. Not overtly dirty, but not trying to play the ball either. It warrants a one-game suspension, and also Bynum is now on my radar as potentially getting the "dirty" label if we see more of this from him.

Looked to me like he was just slow rotating, and he thought Wallace was going to take another step towards the hoop. He had his hands down, as if to wrap him up and stop the shot, but then he jumped and Bynum was cauight awkwardly. Reading on the internet made it sounda lot worse than I thought it looked.

that is the point I made but I don't see why I should have to make that comment in a new thread. I hadn't even seen this specific play when I made it but I've felt this way for some time. You know how there are Bird rights? this could be called the Karl Malone rule. Maybe it would be capped at 10 games or something, but a player who sends another onto the IR with an intentional foul not going for the ball/dirty play should receive more then a slap on the wrist one game suspension.

btw, I'm not surprised that the NBA.com highlight you linked shows only the one obstructed view... I'd like to see a better angle of what happened

It looks to me like Bynum rotated late and didn't want to get posterized by Wallace and didn't know whether to lock him up or go for the block. Looks like he gets stuck at trying to do both.

I've always felt that the player who injures the other player should be suspended as long as that player is not cleared to play. In other words, if Wallace misses a month, so should Bynum. It would cut down on the dirty plays that no longer get taken care of by on-court fights.

I like the fact the L*ker PBP guy said, "Yeah, good call. Andrew wasn't going for the ball at all." I wonder how Mike & Mike would have tried to have covered for one of our guys if they had just broken a guy's rib?

I thought the Charlotte Observer article said he did sustain a rib injury, either a cracked or a broken one.
