According to ESPN Insider, the Lakers are after a point guard and Andre Miller is on top of their list.

Other names mentioned are Kirk Hinrich (slim chance) & Leandro Barbosa (slimmer chance.)

Lamar Odom for Andre Miller & Jason Smith would work under salary cap rules.

Jason Smith is out for the season with a torn ACL, but the Lakers could keep him on the injured reserve since the team currently only has 14 roster spots filled.

Should the Lakers do this deal?

Miller's contract also expires at the end of this year.

Damn....well since Miller is expiring at the end of the year then either way thats money off the cap that we cant really get back. That was one of the side benifits of dealing Odom. This is tough. Even though its obvious that Miller could help us out, if it aint broke dont fix it....right? right?!?

Odom gets his hate but only because we expect more...what he already does without improving is a great help. If I had to pick I would say keep Odom and try to resign him for less at the end of the year

I agree with you and I don't think it's that obvious that Miller could help this team all that much. He needs the ball in his hands to be effective and he sure doesn't strike me as a triangle type of PG. Doubt that this deal will happen.

I don't see a huge improvement if all goes well, I'd rather just play it safe and keep LO in this case.

Word. I mean I do like Miller and I'm not much of a fan of Lamar but Lamar is a good fit in the triangle. Miller wouldn't be. He can't shoot, he needs the ball to be effective offensively. As much flack as LO gets on here you really couldn't find many better 6th men in the triangle system. It seems like a lot of Lakers fans want another star in exchange for LO but with Kobe and Gasol plus Bynum coming into his own (hes made a nice improvement offensively this month).

I wouldn't trade a big for a small, at least not for Andre Miller. Like others have stated, I don't see what Miller can bring to this team at the expense of Lamar. He's a good point guard, but he wouldn't fit well in the triangle offense because I don't think he's a good shooter. I know for a fact he has no range. I still think we should go after Kirk though, we need more defense at the point.

Adding Miller will screw up our rotation... especially at the PG, how will fisher, farmar and miller split the mins?

Im up for adding Hinrich though since he doesn't necessarily need to start for us.

you'll are crazy for not wanting Miller........he gives you someone else besides Kobe who can create off the dribble, and he's a good defender...............Odom is inconsistent and so is Farmar, and D Fish can not play defense to save his life............you'll have plenty of shooters so I wouldn't worry about that too much....................

I'd also take this deal if I'm the Lakers. Miller is one of the best post-entry passing PGs in the league and is a master at the backdoor lob pass. Neither Farmar or Fisher deliver the ball properly to our big men. He's an upgrade defensively for us in the backcourt which has been a major weak point all season long.

I know Odom has played well off the bench this season, but is that because he's playing 10 less minutes a game and we don't see the same amount of mistakes piling up? The guy still buckles under pressure and can't take advantage of mismatches.

I think Miller would allow us to matchup better with teams running the pick and role. The Bobcats milked that play everytime they needed a basket and the Lakers had no answer.

The only downside is the Lakers would potentially have to play Walton and/or Radman more minutes, which would be counter productive.
