Why on earth does this guy continue to leave Greg Oden out of his top 10 rookies in his T-Mobile Rookie Report at nba.com?

I mean, come on. He has Jason Thompson ranked 7th and Marc Gasol ranked 8th, but no Oden. For the season, Oden has better over all numbers than both, and he's doing it for the 8th best team in the league, the current 5th seed in a very tough Western Conference. Thompson is putting up inferior numbers on the second worst team in the entire league (last in the Western Conference). And Gasol is doing it on the 5th worst team in the league - and the team that is sinking the fastest.

These rankings are supposed to somehow give preference to recent play, and recently Oden has been outplaying all the other big men in his top 10. For the season, Oden leads ALL rookies in PER. He is second in total rebound % (behind Kevin Love, who is 2nd in PER and also not in this clown's Top 10 rookies). Oden leads all rookies, by a substantial margin in FG% and TS%.

And, of course, leads all rookies in double-doubles - and lately has become a double-double machine. He has averaged 16.4 PPG and 11.6 RPG over his last 5 games. And the Blazers are 4 - 1 during that stretch. By comparison, Gasol has averaged 8.6 PPG and 5.6 RPG over the last 5 games and the Grizzlies have, of course, gone 0 - 5. Thompson has played better individually than Gasol over the last 5 games, (15 PPG, 6.8 RPG) but still not nearly as good as Oden. And like Gasol, Thompson's team is 0 - 5 over that stretch. Now, would someone with a brain please do the math and tell me who is playing better and helping their team win more? And, why isn't he in this fool's top 10 rookies?

This guy gets paid to do this? You can't be serious. Ask any GM who they'd rather have on their team right now, totally ignoring potential, and just based on current performance, and I'd wager 30 out of 30 would pick Greg Oden over Marc Gasol and Jason Thompson. This guy is a joke.

Kevin Love is not there either. It baffles me.

Yep, Love is second in rookie PER, leads all rookies in TRB% and the Wolves are 10 - 3 in January. Yet, this idiot prefers Marc Gasol's inferior numbers and 1 - 12 team record for January and Jason Thompson of the 2 - 13 Kings over both Oden and Love. The guy is completely clueless.

Ridiculous regarding both Oden and Love.

The most confounding thing is I can't figure this guy's biases. I used to think it was an East Coast bias, but he has Eric Gordon at 4th (yeah, right) and Jason Thompson at 7th. Then I thought maybe he was anti big man, but he has Lopez at 5th and Gasol at 8th. His rankings make absolutely no sense to me what-so-ever. So, I decided to give up trying to figure him out and just conclude that he is, indeed, an idiot. It's the only explanation for his rookie rankings.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Probably not a systematic bias but just personal biases. Maybe he thinks Oden was overhyped and Love is an unathletic lump and thus "punishes" them in his rankings for his own lack of objectivity.

Whatever the reason, he's clearly not a good analyst.

I think that he puts WAY too much emphasis on points per game. Oden and Love both are in single digits, and only Chalmers (at 9.5 ppg) is in his top 10.

    Still... ridiculous.

Yes, I agree. And I apologize for any disturbing mental images that may have resulted from my previous post.

Chalmers is so solid. But this "class" is deep.

Agreed. Chalmers is having a fine rookie season, and in most years would be shoe-in to make the all-rookie team. But, he doesn't deserve to be ranked higher than Oden and Love - which just reinforces your point about how deep this rookie class is.

It was a very solid draft through the top 11 positions, with later picks like Chalmers and Mbah a Moute, playing well and contributing, plus holdovers Oden, Fernandez and Gasol from the previous draft. Very deep indeed. And, there are multiple good players at every position this year - which is unusual.
