In an article by one David Lorn/DB.com (A Logical Proposal To Trade Josh For Shaq
With The Suns 'Splintering,' A Deal To Energize Phoenix And Mavs)
, he suggested an interesting trade scenario for the Mavs, Shaq for Howard. I'm sure a lot would say no to a deal that will once again have the Dallas trading for an "old man". Think about it now. Is it really a terrible idea? Shaq is averaging 18.2 PPG, 9.1 RPG and 1.6 BPG in 30 minutes of action while shooting almost 60% from the field. Howard is doing 18 PPG, 5 RPG and 1.7 APG in almost 33 minutes on the floor while hitting 45% of his shots. Looking at the stats alone, Shaq is actually playing better and you won't see many pull up jumpers from him. Howard looks like his playing for himself out there. As good as he is, I think it's time for him to go. The deal would involve Stack, while Shaq will be bringing along Matt Barnes. This would plug the hole that J-Ho's going to leave. Dallas would finally have a legitimate center and would make Dampier a solid back up. A trio of Nowitzki, O'Neal and Kidd sounds real good. With Shaq in the middle, Dirk would be able to play his game more (which is in the perimeter), rather than forcing him to post up. Which would also free him up to run the break without worrying about getting the rebound. Matt Barnes would flourish on the break with Kidd. Bringing in O'Neal might actually give the Mavs a chance to run. Imagine Shaq pulling down the board, passing it to Kidd, Terry running to the 3 point line, Barnes on the wings and Dirk trailing. With Kidd pushing the ball, it's pretty much money in the bank. Dallas is in "win now" mode after trading for Kidd last season. While getting a 35 year old Shaq may not make sense for a lot of teams, it makes perfect sense for Cuban and his Mavs. 2010 is around the corner and the deal won't hurt their chances for the James-Wade-Bosh dash. Right now, Dallas has 1st round playoff exit written all over themselves (if lucky). It won't be the first time people would call Cuban crazy and this time, it might actually work. I'd say go for it!

Idiotic...only reason Shaq is doing that well is because Porter has made EVERYTHING run thru Shaq. Dirk needs the ball too much for Shaq to be there.

If that doesn't say something, I don't what will. Porter gives him the ball, Shaq produces. Nothing wrong there. Carlisle won't be looking at Shaq as option number 1. That would be "idiotic". Shaq will give the Mavs a legitimate inside presence, on both sides of the floor.

We get even older and slower. This would just compound the Kidd trade and really ruin everything we tried to accomplish. The mavericks wanted to run with Kidd and now we are just going to throw that away for a year or two of Shaq playing 60% of the games he is healthy for? Stupidity, unless we can get a quality wing without giving up anyone else (ha). Personally I'd rather have Jermaine O'Neal and a pick from the Raptors. At least when healthy O'Neal plays every game.l

I thought you meant Dwight Howard. I was about to go ape shit on your ass and demand a ban. But, I wouldn't do this if I was the Mavs.

Kidd might not be lighting up the league, but he is one of our most important players and now is calling most of our plays which makes him even more valuable. I personally think Shaq is totally washed up and the only reason his stats have spiked are because all they do is force-feed him the ball
