I don't know why he admitted it. He easily could have denied it, it barely resembles him.

Just more proof that all the official line of "Pot making you a looser" is bullshit. Some of the most successful people I know smoke pot.

Whats even crazier is it's Oregons number one cash crop, and we don't even tax it.

Last year in Humboldt county alone, our government spent 10 BILLION dollars fighting marijuana, and Humbold still had the highest year EVER in pot production. In fact, every year for the past 5 years have been a new record in Pot production there.

Thanks for wasting my money uncle sam. Why our economy is tanking, and instead of taking advantage of what could be a source of jobs and revenew, you spend 10 billion dollars fighting it.

there are almost 1 million marijuana arrests every year in the usa.

over 50 thousand people are incarcerated for marijuana in the usa at a taxpayer expense of over 1 billion dollars per year.

cigarettes kill over 5 million people per year, and rising.

alcohol kills over 2 million people a year.

marijuana has never killed anyone in the history of the world.

I had a friend who is / was (lost touch with him) in jail for killing two other friends and putting another in a wheel chair while driving high. He admitted he shouldn't have been driving because of how much pot he smoked.

over 750,000 people die from prescription drugs every year.

driving deaths are unfortunate, but it is not the marijuanas fault.

so then drunken driving deaths aren't because of alcohol? i'm guessing that 2 million deaths includes some from drunk driving, i may be wrong but probably not.

I agree that folks shouldn't drive while high, that is just a bad idea, even if it is just up to the local mini mart for your dorito run. It isn't the same as somebody driving drunk, but it's still a bad idea to really drive under the influence of anything that can slow your reactions/attention span. Cars are seriously dangerous as is even in the hands of sober folks (if you drive the freeways in Portland every day you know what I mean.) Throw in intoxicants, and it is a bad scenario.

Alcohol and prescription drugs are legal when used as they're meant. Marijuana is not, even if it has "never killed anyone in the history of the world". If you want it to be legal, watch the AfterSchool Special version of "How a Bill Becomes Law" and try to make a difference. Or, you could look at case studies of other places marijuana is legal, like Amsterdam, and take a look at whether or not society there has improved from allowing more freedom for hedonistic pleasures.

If your statistics are correct, 1M people are arrested for marijuana , and taxpayers pay $1B to incarcerate 5% of them? What's happening to the other 95%? Are they being fined? Probation? Community service? Lots of people speed, too...and they generally get fined. I don't know what it's like to do drugs, but I wonder about the validity of arguments from people who are deliberately seeking to break the law for personal pleasure. :dunno:

Michael Phelps = Straight up bitch. He should have not apologized for smoking the ganja, we need to legalize it. Making him say its "regrettable"? Fuck that, part of life son!

very bad scenario. I'm generally for the legalization of drugs for reasons others have listed, but I'm also for the increasing of penalties for DUI's of any form. In no way shape or form is it okay to endanger the lives of others by getting behind the wheel loaded. I've lost friends, family, and a 9 year old neighbor to drunk drivers. I also think talking on the cell without a headset should be made illegal like they just did here in California... those people are distracted and dangerous. I read a study a few years back that detailed statistics showing fatal accidents in CA were 5 times as likely to be caused by someone on their cell then someone under the influence of intoxicants. Hang up and drive!

I think that is part of the problem with Law enforcement of said substances. For instance, you can test to see if I have THC in my system, and all they can figure out is yes, I had THC in my system within the last so many days. But that is really hard to prove it was in my system at the time of being pulled over. How many courts would convict somebody if the evidence was "Well we can prove they had THC in their system sometime during the past 30 or 60 days, but not at the time of this incident in particular." There is no breathalyzer.

My main thing is, prohibition has never worked, and it never will. So quit blowing our money on it, and spend it instead on education. People will make their choices as they will.

Secondly, right now the only place to get your buds is often the same place as other illegal stuff is sold, which exposes many people to much harsher drugs with a lot higher danger to the user. If you take the profit out of it by making it something you can buy at a store or liquor store, then many people would not be exposed to that type of element.

Lastly there is always an element in that world of the occasional, rare, Marijuana which has been laced with another drug which is more dangerous, such as PCP or cocaine. By regulating it, that problem goes out the window.

There are so many legitimate busineses that could be started and be providing a big boost to the economy if they would just realize that regulation is the solution, not prohibition.
