Looks like the Blazers are promoting a Save Our Sonics night at the RG next Wednesday when OKC visits Portland. Weird if you ask me, and don't really know what to think of it.

What do people think of Seattle people infiltrating our game for this? And I would've never thought I'd be so interested to scoop up tickets when Memphis comes (to see how we treat Darius and them) and when OKC comes (just to see what happens there).

The Blazers even promote the night on their Web site:

And Canzano talks about it in his blog:

I don't get it. Isn't it too late to save the Sonics since they've already moved to OKC?

Yeah, it's a lost cause. I just don't get why the Blazers are promoting it. Maybe they had a hard time selling out the game.

The real trick is when can Seattle get another team? The league is already diluted enough where they won't be expanding soon, and most of the teams are pretty set in their current locations.

Hey if the Blazers extend their reach and it means more fans, ticket sales, apparel purchases, TV contracts in King County (et. al.) it makes a helluva lot of business sense if this organization has any hopes of turning a profit and fielding a winning team at the same time in a few years.

I think it's fine widening the net.

"Save Our Sonics" is an organization. I never joined it, but presumably the people that were in it didn't simply disappear or decide to stop following the NBA altogether. It seems natural that they would put together a road trip.

Group sales are desirable, it takes less effort than selling tickets in pairs. I'd expect the Blazers to court any group that wants to buy tickets by the busload.

I think it's a fantastic marketing ploy by the Blazers. There's big time basketball money up in Seattle that's not being spent, and the Blazers are trying to leverage a piece of the pie. Just like the Seahawks and Mariners advertise and promote themselves in the Portland area.

that's not the blazers website, is it? Address bar doesn't say blazers.com. caveat emptor.

No, it is. That's just the url you get when you try to buy tickets.

There is nothing to "save". They are gone.
