My post was in direct response to the poster who said Pop could do whatever the eff he wanted to with his players. I asked why the Blazers couldn't legally sign an available player and then do whatever the eff they wanted with him.

Not only are you new here, but you obviously have little-to-zero grasp of the facts regarding Darius Miles.

 

So, if the coaches can do whatever they want for the best for the team, why does the league care if Portland claims a player they lost to retirement?
If the coach can do whatever he wants, why would the L even try to guess the intent of the team, with regard to how much he would be paid?

Second question,

If it ok for the coach to do whatever he wants when it comes to minutes, is it ok for the weak and mediocre teams to start tanking at mid season by sitting all of their best players?

 

Because getting Miles wouldn't help the team in any way, and it would be blatantly obvious that Portland just wanted to save face on that lost salary, hence, circumventing the salary cap.

The L doesn't have to 'guess', Portland made their plan pretty clear, I think.

No, they're not trying to win. The object of Pop sitting his guys Tuesday is to get them to perform better on Sunday. Resting those guys should translate into better performance down the road.

Heh, you beat me to it. Either that, or JE and SpursGuy think that the coach can do whatever he wants only applies to the Spurs.

I never said pop doesn't have the right to rest players. I had an issue with spurs fan mocking Blazer fans saying we are nuts because pop can "do whatever the fuck he wants to do with his players" . . . that is just not true.

I wonder if Pop thinks tanking that Nuggets game in early Feb. was so smart in retrospect.

 

What's funny, though, is that the Spurs nearly won that game.

 

Not so funny now though.

 

Basketball is a game where millionaires actually put in a few hours 3-4 times a week, for half the year.

Using the word "grueling" in relation to it is absurdly pathetic.
