The player gets a guaranteed contract and is employed. After Memphis waived him and no other team claimed him, he had neither benefit. Miles has yet to enter tonight's game for Memphis; not so coincidently, Memphis is beating Houston by 14 points late in the 3rd.

Pritchard didn't send out the email, so again, your ignorance on the matter is shining bright for all to see.

Talking about real life situations and steps the team may take based on their previous actions isn't really drinking Kool-aid.

My post was in direct response to the poster who said Pop could do whatever the eff he wanted to with his players. I asked why the Blazers couldn't legally sign an available player and then do whatever the eff they wanted with him.

Not only are you new here, but you obviously have little-to-zero grasp of the facts regarding Darius Miles.

So, if the coaches can do whatever they want for the best for the team, why does the league care if Portland claims a player they lost to retirement?
If the coach can do whatever he wants, why would the L even try to guess the intent of the team, with regard to how much he would be paid?

    Second question,

If it ok for the coach to do whatever he wants when it comes to minutes, is it ok for the weak and mediocre teams to start tanking at mid season by sitting all of their best players?

Because getting Miles wouldn't help the team in any way, and it would be blatantly obvious that Portland just wanted to save face on that lost salary, hence, circumventing the salary cap.

The L doesn't have to 'guess', Portland made their plan pretty clear, I think.

No, they're not trying to win. The object of Pop sitting his guys Tuesday is to get them to perform better on Sunday. Resting those guys should translate into better performance down the road.

So in other words, coaches can't do whatever the hell they want with their players.

Heh, you beat me to it. Either that, or JE and SpursGuy think that the coach can do whatever he wants only applies to the Spurs.

Hate to bring this back to the original topic but this was brought up in last night's Warriors-Suns game. The guys calling the game both said the league needs to get rid of road teams playing back to backs where the first game is in the Pacific time zone and the next game is in Denver. They said its probably a loss 95+% of the time which makes sense. In this case, the Spurs flew to GS, played a 7:30 game (9:30 Texas time), it went to OT so lets say the game ended at 10:30 PST (12:30 in Texas), then they have to take a late night flight to Denver and lose an hour because of the time zone change and I believe there's a fairly lengthy bus ride to get from the Denver airport to wherever the hotel is near the arena. Then they have to deal with high altitude and a Nuggets team that is coming off of 4 days of rest. And this is on the second game of an 8 game road trip for the Spurs so Pop obviously didn't want his vets worn out at the beginning of the trip. It's a lot of crappy things to deal with in that scenario so I can see why Pop would rest his big three.

And Manu got injured against the W's I believe.

So there was a plausible explanation there the whole time. It just took a little effort to find it.

So in other words, you don't think Popovich has any right to rest his players.

No . . . I think you are missing the point here.

I never said pop doesn't have the right to rest players. I had an issue with spurs fan mocking Blazer fans saying we are nuts because pop can "do whatever the fuck he wants to do with his players" . . . that is just not true.

    See the difference?

it's still an hour difference. might not make a huge difference, but when you add up all the little the spurs sitting their guys makes sense.

Then why was your post addressed to me? Did I say that Pop can do whatever the fuck he wants? I don't think I did. I said he has the right rest his players during grueling stretches of the season.

No, but I don't hear NFL players whining about playing in Denver. (I don't follow hockey enough to know how they feel. Baseball doesn't count here because of the lack of cardio exertion)

For you guys that hate 'em. This is a

    BUMP.

I wonder if Pop thinks tanking that Nuggets game in early Feb. was so smart in retrospect.

What's funny, though, is that the Spurs nearly won that game.

Basketball is a game where millionaires actually put in a few hours 3-4 times a week, for half the year.

Using the word "grueling" in relation to it is absurdly pathetic.
