http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2009/02/nj_nets_just_13_shopping_days.html I think this is the most intriguing of the trade prospects because of the implications it means. Carter is 32 years old and is due to make a lot of money over the next four years. Trading for Carter is a win now move. Ben Gordon presumably wouldn't be traded. The authors speculation about Gordon being potentially involved is probably a fail. So where would Carter be playing? Small forward probably. What does this mean? The Bulls already moved Luol Deng in another trade, and that trade put the Bulls in some sort of win now position. For Trade 1? How about Deng, Gooden, and Ruffin and first round pick for Amare, Barnes, and Amundson. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...3041~1765~1727&teams=21~21~21~4~4~4&te=&cash= For Trade 2? How about Noah, Hughes for Carter and Williams. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...s=356~3224~136~3239&teams=17~17~4~4&te=&cash= Why would the Nets be making such a trade? Because they are blowing the entire thing up for 2010. Noah won't be due for an extension until after 2010 (while Tyrus would) thus Noah's inclusion, and Hughes takes Carter's salary off before 2010. That would leave us with: PG-Derrick Rose/Kirk Hinrich SG-Ben Gordon/Kirk Hinrich Sf-Vince Carter/Thabo Sefolosha PF-Amare Stoudemire/Andres Nocioni C- Tyrus Thomas/Aaron Gray Will John Paxson pull off some crazy Danny Ainge type crap and turn the Bulls into instant contenders? Only time will tell.
Re: Bulls talking to Nets for Carter Why wouldn't it? The Nets stink. According to the ESPN guys, teams are beginning to refuse to trade both the combination of cap relief and young talent, even for Amare Stoudemire. Vince Carter is 32, and has a lot of money left do to him. The Nets are going nowhere with Carter. He will be 34 by the time the Nets make any 2010 moves. If that team takes 2 seasons to gel, Carter will already be 36. Trading for Hughes allows them to get rid of Carter's contract with a 2010 expiring contract. Noah just gives them another young big prospect. It looks like teams that have the money to spend, or are willing to spend (New York, Chicago, Portland, LA Lakers, Miami Heat) might be able to make out with some absolute coups this deadline. Marc Stein has as listed as one of the potential Amare trades BULLS: Tyrus Thomas, Thabo Sefolosha, Cedric Simmons and Drew Gooden That would be an absolute steal from the Bulls and makes them not doing the Gasol trade brilliant in the long run. (Rose + Amare >>>> Gasol).
Re: Bulls talking to Nets for Carter The Nets can get a lot more for Carter than a player who nobody wants and an energy guy. The Nets have no need for Noah; they already have a great core of young big men.
Re: Bulls talking to Nets for Carter Brook Lopez is one player, not a core. I don't think the Nets can get too much for Carter. He's 32 and has a big contract. A 2009 expiring contract instead of a 2010 expiring contract i about the only thing that I can see the Nets getting for Carter that is a big improvement than what I proposed.
Re: Bulls talking to Nets for Carter Brook Lopez is one player, yes. Have you heard about Yi Jianlian and Ryan Anderson? Or are they below your standards for "young core"? Noah would get 10 minutes per game (max) in the Nets' current rotation. If the Nets trade Carter, they're going to look for a young swingman in return, to help their strengthen the 2 and 3. Neither Hughes nor Noah fulfill that need. The Nets don't need the cap space. They're set for enough cap space in 2010 to pick up a good free agent in the market.
Re: Bulls talking to Nets for Carter The article you cite but fail to quote sums it up nicely It's a flight of fancy by the author, and you're taking off in your own flight of fancy based off it. In fact, this is going to mark the first time in like a year I've actually edited a post. I'm changing the thread title to something accurate, since there was no mention that the Bulls are actually talking to the Nets about Carter. We're extremely open to all posting and opinions, but please make the effort to accurately represent what's going on.
I heard about a trade for vince a while back, like Kirk and someone else for him. I dont think he would help us as much because we would still need a big man. And although Amere sounds nice, I dont think we'll be able to land him, but I can only hope
Re: Bulls talking to Nets for Carter Yes it does. "Two agents told us today that the Nets have talked to San Antonio, Cleveland, Chicago, and -- really, one said this, and we don't believe him - Toronto. Interesting choices, none of which fit into your "perfect world" scenario." The Ben Gordon part is just the writer's idiotic speculation, but the talking to Chicago part isn't.
It's pointless to receive A'mare Stoudemire and lose Deng. That would leave us with a Line up of 1 consistent post player and a bunch of shooters...where as if we KEEP Deng then we would have 2 big bodies who can get in that post alot easier than the rest of the team AND one of them can shoot the ball well (Deng, who's been playing well lately). Imagine an Rose/Gordon or Kirk?/Deng/A'mare/Thomas combo... VC is declining (maybe he could bounce back) but as it stands, even as great as that line up sounds with VC and Amare on one team, I don't think it will be as great as it looks...I see more lasting potential with A'mare and Deng. A great but unrealistic (i think unrealistic) team would be Rose and Deng and VC and Amar'e on one team. Derrick Rose or Kirk/Kirk or Gordon VC/Gordon/Kirk (depending on who we trade if we trade) Deng/Amar'e or Noc (depending on who we trade if we trade) Amar'e or Thomas/Gooden or Thomas or Noc (depending on who we trade if we trade) Thomas or Amar'e/Noah or Thomas I'd let some tears go if we had this team...imagine if we didn't have to trade much to get two All Stars....Shit...maybe it could happen...the Lakers got Pau Gasol for a couple of scrubs XP.
You're not getting VC and Sean for Hughes and Noah. You can have Sean. But we refused to give you Simmons for Hughes, what makes you think we give you our leader for him?
If it's the best you can get in terms of blowing it up in 2010, that is how we would get him. It's not exactly great, a 2009 expiring contract would be better, but if that's the best you can get, that's the best you can get, and I'm not saying that's the best you can get, but that's about all that should be offered, because other teams won't offer too much more.
Yea but he said that the Lakers got Pau for a couple of scrubs, one of which was Kwame Brown, who had I think the biggest expiring contract that offseason
Actually just about everyone is locked into a contract beside Gordon and Drew and a few minimum paid players.
I'm not sure the exact number, but next year he makes about 15 or 16 million. The year after, only 5 million is guaranteed. Most of the 61.8 million has already been issued. We're not blowing up for 2010 unless we can get a great young piece and picks for VC. It makes no sense. No superstar in their right mind would sign with the Nets if we're winning 20 games a season. It doesn't matter how much money we can offer without VC. We have enough cap space as it is. We have to make the team a contender. Hughes/Noah is NEVER going to happen. You have to remember the Nets are the ones who always screw over teams in trades. The Bulls, on the other hand, turn down KG, Gasol, and Kobe. It's not happening.
