Good point. Perhaps his beard is his strength. A return to the mohawk couldn't hurt at this point either.
its been said that sarge is a great assisant coach for defense (the role he played on USNAT team) but not a head coach,,,,,,
Let's unpack this a bit. In our wins, we shoot about 5% better in FGA (in almost exactly the same # and/or "pace"), 7% better on 3's (1 more 3PA in losses than wins), and 8% better in FT shooting (79 vs. 71). Our rebounds are 4 lower in losses. Our efficiency in wins is 120.4...by far the best in the league. (The LAL are leading, last time I checked, at 111). Yet in our losses, our efficiency is (iirc, I don't have my spreadsheet up) 28th. If you want to amalgamate the numbers and say "we're #2 in offensive efficiency, don't change a thing!", then it's convenient but you're not getting a good picture of where the team is. Today our efficiency was not that of the #2 offense in the league. Not close.
i hate to state the obvious but there is one assistant coach who knows the system and could step right in...... http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/feb/06/henry-bibby-damon-stoudamire-have-joined-grizzlies/ in some parallel universe i could actually see this working....
where did i say that the blazers had the #2 offense in the league and shouldn't change a thing? the entire first post was talking about how terrible the offense is and how it needs to change. the offense is ranked 2nd in the league in efficiency. it is not the blazers main problem. the blazers main problem is on the defensive end. of course the blazers can improve offensively. actually getting oden the ball in the post more than 3-5 times a game would be a start and would likely help the defense as well.
apparently we want to fire Nate McMillan now? wtf people? He's been developing this team beautifully over the last 3 years. Winning roughly 10 more games a year consistently. As of tonight we were on pace for 52, an 11 game improvement over last year. Heck, he's being considered for COTY honors. So many Portland Trailblazer fans are absolute knuckleheads sometimes....
I think the teams progress in the last 3 seasons pretty is much tied to the raw talents of Roy and LMA and the drafting skills of KP. This team still plays D and runs offense as badly as the first season he arrived, we just have some better players.
Nate is the worst coach in the league and he will be fired within 2 years. He is making greg oden look like kwame. Nate you suck go back to seattle.
This couldn't be truer. He can put how he "molded" this team into a winner on his resume and move along.
I don't know where the "blame" belongs. I am beginning to lean towards the coach though. The problem I have, is I don't know if it is the players not executing, or if they are actually being told to do what they are doing. One thing I can say though, is that the lineups in the game, are not in control of the players, and the play time and play calling for one particular player, is bothering me. Oden. I will leave it at that.
I have been saying this for about a year. Fire or let him go. He never coached big men and it shows. His defensive message is " we need to man up" Give me a fucking break Nate you man up and go away. His offensive sets are atrocious, his defense is horrible. He can't even teach his own position to his players. I would go after Gundy who had experience with big men and took them to the Finals. He had a fragile Yao and T-Mac in Houston, otherwise he kept them in contention. Bye, Bye Nate... Our #1 pick picks up half of his fouls on help outs. He touched the ball 6 times with 2 assist last night
I was wondering if there is any chancel Rick Adelman might be cut loose from Houston. He has a track record of success, and he has developed some very good bigs over the years(Duckworth, Divacs, Cweb, Gerald Wallace, Hedo Turkoglu, Cliff Robinson...you can go on and on and on.)
I don't think Portland needs a retread coach. And I don't think they need another developmental coach. Adelman hasn't done crap in the NBA and is a career big game loser. This team needs a coach that can win a title.
07-08: 108.4ppg 08-09: 109.2ppg Our offense and rebounding improvement is what's really made a difference this year.
I don't think Nate can win a title either, but I still think he's a very good coach. And I don't think there are many coaches available that would be a big enough improvement.
