That doesn't make any sense, IMO. I want the players on my team to be good decision-makers, which means knowing their teammates' strengths and factoring that in. If Roy has Sergio open at the three-point line, but Aldridge singled up in his favourite spot on the floor, I want him to recognize that Sergio shooting the three isn't the best scoring option in that situation. As for your theories about Roy having personal issues with Rudy that effect how he plays with Rudy...sure, that would be bad, but it seems like rather random speculation to me.
Rudy's a rookie, a streak shooter (lately he's been especially bad) and Brandon is the undisputed leader and all-star on this team. I think the biggest evolution in Brandon's game is that he is going out and getting his when appropriate, while still distributing at a high rate. I think you are inferring a whole helluva lot based on some pretty thin evidence that there is anything personal between Roy and Rudy, but if there is a "problem" (which I find highly suspect) then there is only one player who is going to be shown the door and that is Rudy, not Brandon.
That's a very good question! Back in Bristol they just have a room full of DVR's or servers recording the game. It went out in HD. I think it is laziness on there part to not find the HD signal. Shoot, KGW, KOIN and KATU a lot of the times don't show HD hi's!
weird. I notice a lot of other teams with local HD being shown. Call up those bastards in Bristol and let em' know we've got HD here in the PNW!
I don't believe there's any ill will between Rudy and Roy. They seem to get along- Roy said he would be willing to throw passes for Rudy's dunks for the Dunk Contest; Sergio said he would not. Are you basing your hypothesis on just Roy not passing to an open Rudy some of the time? Because I remember more than a couple times when Roy did find Rudy for open 3s this season. As for why Roy would not pass to Rudy for an open 3 the other times, I think Roy and Nate prefers that our team not settle for 3s all the time, so Brandon takes it to the basket to get an easy bucket or draw some fouls (getting the other team in foul trouble).
If you're right and Roy and Rudy don't have any real issues than It's all good. About Minstrel's response - yes, if you're standing at the top of the arc like a PG and thinking which way to go or what play to call it's better to have Aldridge shoot inside than Sergio take a 3 but if the ball is already moving and players are running I don't want Roy (or anyone else) to see that the player that's suddenly wide open isn't a good shooter or is going through a slump or is someone he doesn't like and bring everything to a stop. The ball needs to keep moving and if the shot is good enough, even someone who has less % needs to take it. Matt Bonner said that Greg Popovich told him "if you're open and you don't take the shot you're going to the bench". Matt Bonner. I believe that it's a big part of basketball-karma: don't deny an open shooter the ball. ESPECIALLY not if it's because you dislike him. What was that guy's name we brought from San-Antonio, damn it, what was his name. He was hitting 3's left-and-right when in SA because he was open and got the ball not because he was that amazing a shooter. Roger Mason is doing a lot of the same thing this year after playing overseas (where he wasn't dominating, BTW) because when he's open, he gets the ball, he nails one, and another one, and he gets confidence. I think last year, Roy and the Blazers were able to make Jones a better 3-point shooter than he really is the same way.
Interesting. I didn't see Roy "snub" Fernandez after his big shot, but my girlfriend did. She asked me if there was any tension on the team, and I said I didn't think so. Now that you've pointed it out, I'm wondering if she was right. Please tell me exactly what happened after Roy made the game winner, since I didn't see it. Was Rudy attempting to give him a high five, and Roy just ignored him?
Roy always looks off in the crowd after a shot like that without high fiving anyone, that's kind of his sig after a clutch shot like that. Unless he's snubbing the whole team I don't think there's anything to that.
I think the longer clip shows it wasn't a big deal, just a missed hi-five. You seem Sergio jump in, and Rudy and Roy talking in as he's pulled off court.
He does look like he ignores Rudy.
I don't think that was a snub. After jumping into Outlaw, he turns around towards the crowd like he usually does. When every one is hugging I think he does hit Rudy's hand, though it's hard to tell for sure. When he went for the drive to the basket Rudy was cover and only came some what open after Roy was pretty much committed to the drive. I think people are making something out of nothing.
roger mason played for the wizards the last two seasons, not in europe. and he shot 40% last year from 3. and of course the spurs want bonner taking open shots. that's all that he brings to the table. half of his shots are from 3. 80% are outside 7 feet. if he isn't taking open shots to keep the defense honest, he brings nothing to the table offensively. you want shooters to take open shots when they come about and unless you've got an open layup or very high percentage shot you want to always pass to an open shooter(unless of course you have a teammate with a better shot) but there's no reason to pretend that who the open player shouldn't be taken into account. if a guy isn't capable of making the shot, why try to force him to shoot one? of course i'm fine with any of the perimeter guys on the current blazers roster taking open shots(even though bayless still hasn't gotten his outside shot to consistently fall) but that isn't always the case.
Bonner plays very solid D and is just an all around smart player who doesn't make many mistakes and plays within his game. He's a perfect Popovich type player.
