My opinion is he's just doing this to get released by New York so he can pick his own team.

LOL....I was thinking the same thing....Favre to Minnesota talks will start to resurface again! He did want to come to Minnesota in the first place, but there was no way the Packers we're gonna trade him there.

Oh yeah, Favre to Minnesota is the media's dream. Even if it doesn't happen we'll be hearing about the possibility of it happening non-stop for weeks.

When the Jets traded for him, the Packers put a poison pill in the deal....if the Jets trade him to Minnesota, they have to give the Packers three 1st round draft picks....I know that releasing him so he can sign with the Vikings is not a trade, but I guarantee that would trigger a lawsuit, as the Packers would claim the Jets released him to avoid completing the deal....and with the courts the way they are today, you just never know what might get ruled....I just don't see anyway he gets to Minnesota under any circumstance....

If they release him and he goes to Minny why would that gain any traction in a lawsuit? The Jets don't benefit at all. I just don't see the issue there.

Good riddance. It was so wrong for him to be in another uniform.

exactly....the Jets get nothing from the deal...so how can Green Bay hold them liable? If he's released it's not the Jets who control who Favre can sign with....that's the thing with releasing a player....you no longer control him. All this talk of claiming that the Jets could release him to sign with Minnesota is bull-crap, it can't be proven....once he's released he can sign anywhere

And why is Green Bay being so anal about him playing for whoever? They moved on without him...they need to quit being childish and let him live his life....thier the ones that tried to bribe him to stay retired and then traded him. I don't see how you can have any control over a player you no longer have....I can't see how a contract can be made say what you with your own player after he's part of your team...crazy...but if he's released...he's on no one's team...so Green Bay shouldn't be able to bully the Jets

It like having a Baby's Mama...you want to leave her crazy ass and don't want her, but you don't want anyone else to have her either....just sad...:sigh:

When you make an agreement, specifically one with a contractual element, you are legally required to live up to the terms of the agreement....the law also expects you to live up to the spirit of the agreement....in this case, the Packers put in language to keep the Jets from flipping Favre for a profit, but only if they were flipping him to a team the Packers would not negotiate with....one could argue that allowing Favre to become a free agent this soon after the fact could be scene as an attempt to circumvent the spirit of the agreement....if the Packers filed suit, it would go before a judge....at that time, the Players Association would file suit against the Packers and the Jets on behalf of Favre, claiming that they colluded to limit the players opportunity to seek out a deal on a free market....next, a legislator, such as a congressman(Al Franken is a big enough clown if to do it if he ever gets seated), could threaten the NFL's antitrust status to create leverage....once its in the courts, your guess is as good as mine as to how it would turn out....burglars are suing people they robbed because they got hurt in their house and winning, so who knows....judges are out of control....anything is possible

I see where your coming from and it would be a big ass mess. I just don't see how Green Bay can prove that the Jets released Favre so he could sign with Minnesota....all they have to do is deny or claim they had no knowledge of where Bret would sign. They can't control that once he's released. All the Jets are doing is what Green Bay should have done...he's not fitting in with thier future plans so they want to let him go and move on

But speaking of good faith...what kind of sportsmanship is Green Bay showing by whining that they don't want Favre...but they want extra comp if he goes to a team they don't want him to go to? If not having Favre play for another certain team was an issue...they shouldn't have moved on and kept Favre...they made this mess...thier done with him...just leave him alone.
