Saw a thread for most overrated player and thought I would post the other side of the spectrum. I think Mike James is one of the most underrated players in the NBA. He's been pretty much a journeyman so far in the NBA, 6 teams in 5 NBA seasons, he also was never drafted. He's having a great year this year and just torched up my Celtics, scoring 11 of his 20 points in the 4th quarter. His numbers this year18.3 pts, 3.1 rpg, 5.4 apg 47% FG, 43% 3PT, 37.5 MPG

BCB is right. Rockets had James last year, and he is very unreliable down the stretch (ive seen him make some BONEHEADED decessions).I think it's gotta be SHAWN MARION- he has EXPLODED this year.

underrated player should be jason richardson, elton Brand, joe johnson, brad miller. All four are good and get recognition, but if they were in a larger market/better team, ESPN would not shut up about these guys. Brand averaging what 25-12-3 and MVP talk is NOWHERE?

The thing with Mike James in Houston is that when he first started playing, he was doing really well but then out of no where they decided to make him come off the bench. Then his numbers dipped abit but 12 ppg is still good coming off the bench. On the Raptors, we just gave him a chance. The guy is a lightsout shooter. And great at the end of games. But the knock on him is that he takes it upon himself to shoot, not pass when he has the ball and also that he is not a natural pg. I hope someone lke the Lakers can find room for him in the future.

Everytime I've seen James play he's been good, guess I'm catching him on good nights. Elton Brand isn't underrated, everyone knows how talented he is, Joe Johnson is DEFINATELY not underrated, he's got a max contract for 19 pts and 6 boards a game?? He's overrated if anything. Mike James might take too many shot but his percentages are great

Andre Nocioni has to be one of the most underrated young players, hes a great defender, rebounder, can penetrate and shoots one of the best fg% from the 3 pt line it the NBA.

Whenever JVG would trust him to make decessions down the stretch- he wouldn't make the right ones.I don't think James will ever be the starting PG on a contending team- he is definetly a good role player- and could be good for a role off the bench on a contending team- but he lacks the decession making ability/leadership ability to take over down the stretch.

I think the Most Underrated Player will have to go to Josh Howard. The guy does everything. Rebound, hustle, defense, and now he is becoming a second scorer to Dirk Nowitzki.

Jason Collins isnt much at all. Has no offensive capabilities, and is decent defensively. Should never start for New Jersey with Krstic in the frontcourt. Good guy off the bench however. How about Gerald Wallace? His numbers are beast for a 6-7 forward, 14.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.14 bpg, 2.3 spg, to go along with 55% shooting from the floor. Alot of guys will pop up in this thread, and alot of NBA players are underrated because they never get attention from the media. The media is always focused on behind-the-scenes issues, like with Phil and Kobe, or Isiah Thomas' sexual harrasment case. It may sound interesting and all, but god damn, other un-noticed, talented NBA players need their respect.

Some that come to mind:Brad Miller- Very good player that is NEVER mentioned as a top center in the league.Paul Pierce- One of the best swingmen in league, having a better year than VC, T-Mac, and many other top tier swingmen. He is also very solid on D and hits the big time shots.Jason Terry- A hidden gem. One of the best PG's in the league. I saw it first hand in playoffs last year when he almost single handedly killed the Rockets. He is a monster, can score with the ebst of them and is great playmaker. Caron Butler- Has alwys seemed to be overshadowed by much better guards (Wade, Kobe, now Arenas) but he is a very solid player and is the caliber of a RJ. Those were just some of top of my head....

Paul never gets any love, but i didn't want to sound like a homer.Json Terry is very underrated, he's better at D than ppl think, he's a great offensive player, and he's even clutch.
