Quick and Crapzano cant even do a good job of pretending they know a thing or two about basketball/the NBA. Many of us have known that for years.
Really? I have pretty much found out about every trade via the internet before Quick was aware of it. I cannot think of one that did not break on the net first.
Internet rumors and breaking news online are FAR different things. One is a rumor and the other is journalism. Name me one rumor you read online that came true. "Trade coming soon!"
I think Quick broke the Zach to NY trade on The Fan a couple years ago. I remember listening to the radio for that one.
AI is just a bad fit in Detroit..but a Roy/Iverson backcourt would be fun to watch. Let Roy handle the ball and let AI run around. I mean he would add major jersey sales and give us some playoff experience. But Blake, Raef is about as much as I would pony up as well.
I can name a few...recent ones even. Telfair for the Boston pick was an internet rumor for several days before it happened. Zach Randolph to New York for Steve Francis and a player, though many of the rumors didn't have Channing Frye as the player we'd get. There were Jason Kidd for Devin Harris rumors for weeks before that deal happened. Grant Hill to Phoenix.
I think Wilt for Jerry Chambers, Archie Clark and Darrell Imhoff was also online first. And so was AI for Billups. Maybe even Obama for Bush.
Remember when his source for breaking the story that the Blazers had hired Marc Iavaroni as their next coach turned out to be Canzano? Anyways though he's been the beat reporter for a decade, I'm drawing a blank trying to come up with something he got right. Maybe he was right back on Martell and Telfair as Nash played his cards face up. But remind me of all the other times Quick was right predicting what Blazer management was about to do. I can recall umpteen times when he was wrong about trades and picks... how can a internet site be less reliable then some sports writer with a near 0% history of being right? STOMP
My point really wasn't to defend Jason Quick, though I do think he is a good writer, but rather to note that Internet rumors are a really bad source of trustworthy information. All I can say is that I am glad I didn't end up being the one defending Internet rumors as legitimate trade information in this thread!
Depends on who the 'internet rumors' are from. There are legitimate sources on message boards from people who work in IT/reception/etc in NBA front offices or people who are friends of players. For instance Al Jefferson's torn ACL broke on the Minnesota board on realgm a few hours before the press release was sent out because a close friend of Al's posts there. Just have to go through some bad ones to get to the good ones.
so I take it you couldn't recall one time he was right about anything either? Wouldn't being constantly wrong qualify him as a really bad source of trustworthy information too? STOMP
