Well anyway Im watching the World Cup Qualifier and im woundering why isnt Adu playing? If this is in the wrong forum, bite me
Adu isn't playing because he hasn't played enough for the club to put him past Dempsey, Beasley, or Donovan. At the moment, he's got more potential than any US player not named Altidore, but he needs to find a place to play. He's been brilliant at the youth levels for the US, but he's slipping at the club level and sits behind the three I already mentioned, as well as Torres and even Robbie Rogers. He needs to find a place where he can play in the playmaker role. As for this match, what a performance by the US. Just entirely dominating the match from start to finish. Michael Bradley was clearly the best player on the pitch and the Mexicans were simply outplayed for 90 minutes. I'm not sure if there was any lingering doubt as to who the best team in CONCACAF is, but now, I hope its all gone.
adu wasn't even called into the squad because bob bradley is a moron who generally hates giving young, non mls players playing time. adu absolutely deserved to be on the squad and at the very least be an offensive sub(though he would have likely not been used in this game in that role). altidore should have come in the game a little earlier as well(well really he should have started). good game by the US but i would not say they dominated the game. the first half was pretty back and forth with each teams having chances, though i would say the US did have an advantage and rightfully came away with the 1-0 halftime lead. the game kinda drifted a lot in the 2nd half and of course the horribly stupid foul by marquez made it much easier for the US after he was rightfully red carded. very impressed with michael bradley though. he would have had a great game without any goals.
2-0. bradley scored both goals. in the 65th minute rafa marquez got a red when he tried to challenge tim howard for a ball in the box(a cross high the air) and intentionally got howard in the thigh with his cleats. at that point it was 1-0 and the US carried it easily from there and scored the 2nd in the 90th minute.
At the moment, Torres deserves to be ahead of Adu on the depth chart and there's no reason for either to go ahead of Dempsey, Donovan, and Beasley. Adu isn't playing for Monaco. He hasn't played at the club level since he left MLS. Altidore hasn't been playing much either, which is why he didn't start. Even if Adu was getting playing time, he probably wouldn't start. He's not moving ahead of Donovan and Bradley wants players who can defend out on the wings, and Adu has never done that. Adu will be involved in qualifying and Altidore will get starts. However, this isn't a throw-away game against the Dominican Republic, its the start of the final round of qualifying against your only rival in CONCACAF. And how exactly do you call Bradley a moron after he put together a squad that absolutely dominated the Mexicans for 90 minutes and won 2-0?
because they didn't absolutely dominate mexico. the US got the better of the play(when it was 11 v 11) and deserved the win but the only dominating of the game occur after mexico was reduced to 10 men. and bradley is a moron for some of his decisions. there is no excuse for robbie rogers to be on the team over adu and had the US given up a goal and needed an offensive spark there is no one better than adu to give that in the US talent pool. ching starting over altidore is another mistake that bradley is going to continue making.
Its hard to critique Bradley's record. He's been terrific as the manager of the United States, despite the fact that he clearly wasn't the name manager that most fans wanted (Hiddink, Klinsmann, etc). Of course, we saw what a name did for Mexico last night. As for Adu, it goes back to playing time. He isn't getting any and while he has been respectable in his USMNT performances, he hasn't done enough to show that he deserves that spot. Jose Francisco Torres has been playing consistently at a high level for one of Mexico's top clubs and should be the top attacking midfield option off the bench for Bradley. As for Atlidore, I also think he should be starting. However, Ching was terrific against Sweden and Jozy hasn't gotten minutes in Spain. The choice I have a bit of a problem with is Hejduk over Wynne, but Hejduk's performance and being established as a veteran of the USMNT makes that a pretty respectable selection. I like the kids, but when it comes to them, patience is a virtue. Throwing Jozy and Freddy out there for 90 against Mexico in the opening match of WC qualifying isn't the best idea.
beasley has struggled to even make the bench, much less get playing time at rangers. so it's obviously not the playing time that matters. and then you have the mls guys called in who aren't currently in season. i didn't have a problem with hejduk over wynne, because they essentially do the same things. both will get into the attack and do absolutely nothing there and their only real asset is their athleticism. why? for them to ever become experienced, they are going to have to play in some games.
Beasley was picking up his 83rd cap. Its not a valid comparison. The two things I am talking about are playing time and an established record with the USMNT. Adu has neither. Beasley has an established record as one of the best players on the USMNT. Adu will get his chances during qualifying. I just don't think the opener against Mexico is the time for that. I could see Adu getting some time off the bench in each of the next two matches. I don't see any issue with him not getting time in a major match.
BUIT ADU NEEDS PLAYING TIME damnit! as a casual soccewr fan, Adu is really the most reconizable name for the States. BTW NOW im out of beer damnit!
I might be a dumb american when it comes to this sport, but I understand that the MLS might be equvelint to single A baseball in the realm of Futbol. That being said wouldnt it be better to sit the bench at Moracco then to play in DC?
no. the mls isn't a good league, but it's an underrated one. better to play there than sit the bench in all but the best leagues. french league is solid, but i don't think it qualifies. especially not monaco that is just a middle of the table team.
I agree with you. Many people say that the MLS is a terrible league, but it really isn't all that bad. There are some good players in there, but the overall quality may be lacking. I've been to about five DC United games and every time I've been pleased with the tempo and passion of the game. Of course the crowd aren't as loud as Europe's, but it's still pretty loud. I also joined one of United's numerous fan clubs. I chose the Screamin' Eagles because they gave us a personalized shirt with membership. It's great fun down in "The Nest". I was also there for Beckham's début in the Premiership!
Its not the best, but its not close to where you're putting it. Its probably comparable to the second division of the top European leagues. As for the bench thing, if Monaco was a better team and Adu was 27, I could see that logic working. However, he's 19. There's no substitute for playing real matches against real opponents. And lastly, you can just be dumb when it comes to the sport. Being an American doesn't make a difference in intelligence.
That was the gayest match I ever seen. Both of them were terrible, I swear to god when the American footballers were on the pitch they where lost they had no clue what to do, they really suck bad.
