Watching the Bulls/Heat game on TNT right now and I am convinced that Hinrich is the kind of point guard we need on our team. Is he the best PG in the league, far from it, but we dont need the best player in the league on our team at every position. Look at the Lakers. How many PG's in the league are better then Fisher? Hinrich is a very smart player, makes good passes into the post and plays lock down defense on the perimeter. If we traded for Hinrich our perimeter defense would improve significantly almost immeadiately and it would keep guys like Oden from getting into foul trouble as the guards man would be getting less penetration. Bayless could learn a lot from a guy like Hinrich and take over the reigns in a couple of years. Obviously I would love to try and get Deng as well, (maybe a 3 way with Phoenix sending Chicago Stoudamire, us getting Hinrich and Deng and Phoenix getting Raef, Outlaw ect) but if that didnt happen I wouldnt be opposed to trading Raef straight up for Hinrich.
I'd be down with it, but Paxson is somewhat notoriously reluctant to trade his guys ... even an overpaid backup like Hinrich. The question arises, who would the Bulls want, and how do you get the salaries to match? Deng I see as being probably close to untouchable, his play has vastly improved since he came back from injury.
Hinrich and Simmons for Raef works. The other thing that I like about Hinrich is that he has a contract that pays him less each year. That is a rarity in todays NBA.
If are committed to Bayless as our PG of the future I'd much rather go for Andre Miller. Kirk just isn't the same player he once was. I really don't understand it, either. He was once one of the best young PG's in the game and now he's no better than Steve Blake. It would be a lateral move. It'd improve our bench. But not an upgrade in the starting unit.
I think somehow Amare is shipped to the Bulls and we sneak in there with RLEC and squeek away with Hinrich in a 3 way deal.
The idea of trading for Kirk makes puke rise in the back of my throat just a little bit. If we traded something very small for him and didn't lose a big asset, then I would be ok with it. But, just because he is available doesn't mean we have to get him. Raef's contract is just about the most desireable contract in the league right now. And waste that away for a guy who has shot .414 from the field for his career?
Hinrich's defense is amazing. You NEVER see him lose his man on a back door play. He also fights through the picks. That alone would stop many uncontested shots or easy baskets from occuring. I also agree with you, Hinrich would pair well with Roy. He works great with, or with out the ball in his hands thus deferring to Roy who likes to control the flow of the game. I think this is the kinda PG we should be trying to get because Paul, Parker, Harris, Williams, Rose ect is not gonna happen.
Not sure how much you've watched Hinrich. Excellent defender, decent shooter, high BBIQ, and good leader. I'm not sure I like trading Raefs contract for Hinrich alone but as it was said in here earlier he would make a huge difference with our perimeter defense. That would help protect Oden from foul trouble and provide some much needed experience.
Yeah I whipped up something like that in the trade checker and it's possible to make it all shake out, but there are an awful lot of ifs from Chicago's end, mainly because I had Deng and Hinrich coming to us, and Thomas headed to Phoenix, but Chicago gets Amar'e which make their frontcourt much improved and give Rose somebody to run the pick and roll with to (probably) devastating effect.
Fez, i respectfully disagree it being a lateral move. Sure, Hinrich doesn't shoot as well as he used to but I am sure that would improve some being around guys that draw double teams leaving him wide open. Your not making this trade for his offense, you make it for defense which he would easily be our best perimeter and on the ball defender. Also he knows how to get the ball into the post, something Blake doesnt seem to do so well.

I understand the defensive aspect. He would indeed be an upgrade. But, I am still holding out for a player that would fit better - someone who can defend and shoot the heck out of the ball. I understand that Kirk is probably available, but we shouldn't trade for him just because he seems to be the most available point out there. I think if we are patient enough we can find someone who shoots better. That may even mean holding on to Raef's contract and getting someone during the offseason. I don't mind being patient to make things right. Now, do I have some "perfect player" in mind? Not really. I just comment on the things I see and just really wouldn't want to waste a ton of assets on Kirk.

I don't know how people can think that Hinrich is a lateral move from Blake. He's a quality player. He's not a star, but we don't need a star, especially with Bayless in the wings.
Yeah, Hinrich is a better distributor than Blake and a far better defender. That would help the team a lot. I don't know how much I'd give up for just Hinrich, but if Portland swapped out Blake for Hinrich, I think the team would be significantly better.
