I knew that would be the first question. Unfortunately I don't have an answer just assume you have to include one in the trade.
Hmmm.....I'd probably actually go with Batum. Rudy and BAYless are too much to trade IMO for the future. We need that point, we need Rudy as a rotation player. while batum might be good, his skillsets are probably pretty available pretty easily on the open market.
I said Rudy, but only because he plays behind a 37 minute all-star in Brandon, and would be the "least" missed (at least in the future). The truth is it would all depend on the trade and who was coming back.
It was a very hard decision for me because I like all three and don't want to trade any of them. I picked Batum but just barely over Rudy. There is no way I would trade Bayless unless it was for something really good.
I picked Rudy. He doesn't play a position of need and his upside is not higher than the other two, in my opinion. Of course, if Portland is dealing for a very good young point guard or small forward, that would change things.
I pick Bayless. Less of an upside, IMO, than either Rudy (Reggie Miller) or Batum (Tayshaun Prince). Bayless reminds me too much of young Damon Stoudamire.
1. Batum 2. Rudy 3. Bayless Jerryd is going to be something special I think, Rudy brings in a different demographic of fans (international and ladies) to the Blazer fanbase so he brings revenue to the franchise. Nothing against Nicolas though.
It really depends on what we're getting back. If it's a point guard, Bayless... If it's a small forward, Batum.... But probably Rudy simply because we already have an All-Star shooting guard, and I'm not convinced that Rudy will want to be coming off the bench all his career.
Of course it would depend on the trade. I would go with Rudy first, because while I like him, I expect he would fetch more in a trade -given his current resume. Batum and Bayless are still mostly upside, but have both shown some great flashes already. If I had to pick between those two, I would say Bayless first, because again, I think opinions are higher of him around the league despite his limited playing time. Most trade rumors involving Portland seem to include him which leads me to believe he is coveted to a degree (at least by sports writers, LOL). I really do see Bayless and Roy as the starting backcourt of the future. To deal Batum at this point seems like it would be a mistake. To play as efficiently as he has and be as poised as he has been at such a yong age is very rare. I could see him being a premier defensive player in the NBA in 2-3 years, and I suspect that is more of a current and future need for the Blazers than scorers. A trade including him would have to involve a pretty solid starter coming back, IMO. I am probably overvaluing him, but I think given some more minutes he will improve a ton next year.
Batum, but not because he has less upside, just because he is furthest away from reaching his upside, and with three stars in place, I would rather have a sure thing than more upside. For me, Bayless is the most valuable to the Blazers followed by Rudy. I think Bayless is really going to be something special.
