Marginally worse. Carter is an average defender. Howard is above average. Carter is a much better scorer and play-maker for others. They're about equal rebounders.

His contract isn't awful, since he's playing at a high enough level to justify it and it isn't a long contract.

I don't see how. Shaq didn't fit the Phoenix system at all, so disrupted what they were trying to do. Carter fits Dallas' moderately up-tempo system. I don't see the parallel at all.

No parallels? Both teams ship off their younger small forwards for aging All-stars on the decline?

You have a higher opinion of VC than me which is fine. I just think VC has one of the worst contracts in the game right now and a shadow of his former self.

I like this trade for the Mavericks. It might not work out, but it at least gives Dallas a chance of salvaging this thing around Dirk.

I don't see a parallel in terms of how badly the player fits his new team. Lots of trades are younger players for older players, but the Shaq trade for Phoenix was particularly disastrous since Shaq was completely detrimental to their running style.

Right, I think that's incredible hyperbole. He's definitely not as good as his prime version, but he's still a borderline All-Star and many people thought he might/should make the team. There are so many bad players making lots of money, it's hard to see how a still very productive Carter could possibly be one of the worst contracts. He's in the class of a Stephon Marbury or Gilbert Arenas, in terms of bad contracts?

Nobody touches Gilbert in terms of bad contracts. I'd compare VC's contract to players like Shaq, Camby, AK-47 and Zbo. Still statistically productive, but on the decline and salary cap killers.

How does Ak-47 get grouped with those guys? He has been dealing with injuries, and his numbers are down because he spends all his time being the only good defensive player in Utah's frontcourt. He's hardly apart of their offense anymore which isn't his fault. Boozer, Okur need to be offensive focal points because they give you nothing on the defensive end
