Yea!!!

Can't say I can really blame Reinsdorf for not giving Paxson a bigger budget considering how Paxson has spent his money: Wallace (Gooden/Hughes), Nocioni, Hinrich & Deng. What a bunch of drek for $47M. Why give pay lux tax? To be one and done in the playoffs.

Edit: I low bailed the initial $$$ figure.

Who knows. I don't know that Reinsdorf micromanaged. And if he has opinions, it's the GM's job to take them into account and manage them.

I don't think Reinsdorf ever interfered with Paxson until the Gasol trade. And even then Pax should have known his budget.

Pax since 2005 has been about the worst GM in the business. Except for IT.

How is Paxson to blame. If Reinsdorf said that Paxson wouldn't be able to offer a fair contract to Gordon if he re-signs Andres Nocioni, Nocioni would be a Memphis Grizzlie right now. If Reinsdorf told Paxson that he could re-sign all his guys, and then didn't follow through on that promise, then Paxson has every right to be pissed.

It was obvious that was the plan. Our entire salary structure was based on that. Then what happened? Derrick Rose, an unexpected first overall pick came along. Along with that, the unexpected salary of Rose, which made it impossible to give Gordon a fair contract (after overpaying Deng that is....which Paxson wasn't a part of the negotiations) without going into the luxury tax. With Rose in hand, the Bulls should have been willing to suck up the small luxury tax hit to lock up Gordon long term. Instead, the ownership used the additional salary...and the more additional salary that came from overpaying Deng, to grind an axe with Ben Gordon.

If Paxson had a better owner behind him, such as Dolan or Allen, I don't think he would have resigned, and he would have all the pieces he wanted in place.

A hell of a lot more went wrong with John Paxson's plan than getting the Derrick Rose draft pick.

Ben Wallace was directly Jerry Reinsdorf's idea....Paxson wasn't involved in the Deng negotiations at all, that was all Reinsdorf.

The one guy that Paxson probably wanted to re-sign most is the only guy under a long term contract.

Are you insinuating that Paxson didn't want Wallace and Deng signed? There is zero proof for that and plenty of evidence it is absolutely untrue.

Yeah, and Pax's best moves were at IT's expense.

I think the point that he should have known his budget is the key.

Yep. I will say that if it's an issue like that, Pax is absolutely to be blamed for not being on the same page with Reinsdorf and hanging around to collect a paycheck.

I don't like him as a GM, but I don't think he'd do that.

Wow, wow, wow. Pax is a quality guy and all the half-assed shots from the cheap seats at him are lame. His only fault was liking his guys, and it's hard to blame him for that. He did a very good job under some interesting circumstances. All of his moves made sense at the time, and I think in the future most of his moves will prove to be the right ones (except for not taking Roy because he had BG, but Tyrus still has a chance to prove him right to a small degree.)

Your post is too far off from reality to even respond to in detail. Check the scoreboard. Paxson has been GM for 5.5 years. We missed the playoffs last year and are 23-30 this year.

On the Score, they are reporting that Reinsdorf has moved from denying the credibility of Vescey's reporting to denying the story entirely. Does anybody think that Paxson is leveraging his job against Reinsdorf giving him the financial freedom to complete the Stoudamire trade?

"You think paying the luxury tax is bad, Jerry? Well, I can give do you worse than that. Sign off on this deal, or I'll quit."

That kind of thing.

I agree. It's business. As much as I wish it was different it isn't. Being a fan seriously clouds your judgment.
