They don't need more budget, they need better performance from their players. Guys are underperforming. If guys were performing up to expectations, they wouldn't be under .500 or taking up cap room or crying about not being signed. Making trades would be easier, too. Spending more money isn't the answer. It just compounds the problem. You just end up with more expensive dysfunction.

Sure, it's his fault but he still needs to go to bat in a big way if he thinks he has a once in a decade deal.

You're referring to Noc & Hinrich's contract, right? I think it's easy to forget that going into the start of last season, the Bulls were considered among the top two or three teams for coming out of the East. In that situation, the deals looked relatively smart.

The one thing I really hope doesn't come out of this situation is Doug Collins becoming GM/Coach. The guy strikes me as a bit of a boob.

If Paxson does resign, BJ Armstrong should get the job imo. He has already worked in the Bulls front office, and he's extremely close to Derrick, who we're supposed to be building this team around.

Don't forget about signing the contracts formally known as Ben Wallace and Joe Smith now masquerading as Gooden and Hughes. And Deng.

Individually, most were reasonable. Collectively, it's a disaster.

Joe Smith actually worked out. He had value when he left. I blame Wallace on Reinsdorf. Others may disagree.

I don't find anything really objectionable about Hinrich or Deng's contracts. Well, Deng's is uninsured on his back, which is still pretty sketchy.

No, it didn't. We lost out on Gasol b/c we had Smith on the roster and couldn't offer Memphis as much salary cap relief as Lakers were willing to offer.

Hughes and Gooden are still on our cap and are preventing Pax from taking back any extra salary this year. Pax has lost much of the flexibility in taking back 25% more salary than you send out. That is why MikeDC is pulling his hair out trying to come up with a Amare trade.

I think the title is somewhat wrong right now. I don't see any evidence that Pax is in fact out.

I don't think he thinks that. If anything, getting Gasol for a song last year was as close as they come. I could maybe see going to bat pretty hard at that point, but it's also true that by the time Gasol was finally traded the rest of the Bulls had imploded.

But from a bigger picture, I do think, especially when everyone is scared of the economy, that threatening to resign because your owner won't incur a $10-15M expense (which is greater than the annual operating income of half the teams in the league) is a bit much. Especially when Pax did so much to create that situation.

I dunno... I don't even think Cuban or Paul Allen are completely ready to make a move like that at this point. So I don't know that it's very reasonable for Pax to expect Reinsdorf to.

I dunno... the denials I'm seeing aren't really denials. The original article said he'd be gone after the All-star break, not before. Pax hasn't stepped forward to call it BS, which would seem like a remarkably easy step for him to take.

I tend to agree but ,hypothetically, some impass between JR and Pax at the trading deadline could be the last straw on top of other situations in the last few years.

    He's Rose's agent, isn't he?

Perhaps... I dunno. If everything speculated about Reinsdorf is true, my last straw would have been years ago.

But then again, I don't think most of it's true.

More than anything, I just don't think it's in Pax's character to pull a stunt like that. I think he knows perfectly well that he shares a big chunk of blame, and I think he's just caved under the pressure. One of the really telling things was going back and reading / listening to Reinsdorf and Collins talk about Pax last year and then with Reinsdorf again a few weeks ago. They both make Pax sound like he's in a state of depression. Which is, you know, no way to be when you're supposed to be running things.

OK, now David Aldridge on nba.com is reporting that several sources are saying that Paxson is considering stepping down due to health reasons.

I don't know what to believe, so I think I'm done speculating. lol.

    Here's a link
That last quote is sort of an indication that it's bullshit. Job stress is not a health concern. At least, not a real one. I mean, if Pax has a real medical issue, then sure. But they said the same bullshit about Krause. And pretty much everyone of note in the Soviet Union.

Boers and Bernstein said that Paxson ran into the lockerroom and yelled, "You guys are the worst team in the league."

David Aldridge also thinks that the Bulls are trading Ben Gordon....

The Score just said David Aldridge's health report is "Drastically out of proportion". No health issue would be involved in his decision making regarding his future.
