Everytime the issue of making a trade comes up, we hear some variation on the following argument: "the race may be close, but the teams we are competing with have their own problems." This argument is certainly true....but the conclusions people draw from it leave me bewildered. The fact that the competition is struggling is NOT a reason to become passive! If anything, it is a reason to be more aggressive. If the competition is struggling, why not take advantage of it? Carpe diem baby! Is a bold move guaranteed to work? Hell no....we may just get eliminated in the 2nd round instead of the 1st. OTOH, you are at least trying to reward the patience of your loyal fans, and you are sending a clear message to the team that your expectations are high. What's wrong with that?
I would agree with you if the goal was winning a championship this year, but sacrificing pieces of an eventual dynasty just to win another playoff series this year? No thanks.
WHAT PIECES CHRIS???????? SERIOUSLY CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHO ARE WE GIVING UP????? OUTLAW? SERGIO??? FRYE??????? BAYLESS????? ARE U KIDDING ME??? These guys are not ever gonna help a team win a title. Get whatever value is left on them and run. Nobody ever said w eare trading roy, oden, aldridge, joel, rudy. everyone else is moveable. I laugh to myself when i see people nervous about trading scrubs. OMG...what if sergio is a star in phoenix???? HAVE U EVER SEEN THEM PLAY????? ITS NO LOSS.
You're really ready to say Bayless will never help a team win a title despite his age, recent play, and potential? I don't want to hear you moan about "potential", but to say he could never be a starter on a championship team, let alone a contributor?
heres what im saying.... none of those guys iMO will be anyone who you will feel bad about losing 3 years from now. if you wanna take out bayless thats fine but nobody can convince me we dont know what we have in frye, outlaw, and sergio. GARBAGE
DYNASTY???? CAn oden and aldridge have a good playoff series before you kick that word around? LMAO... lets focus on the 8 seed.
i'm sorry but if bayless is the difference in getting Butler vs. Jefferson, you deal bayless in a heartbeat.
I'm certainly not advocating a Roy-for-Kidd deal, or something of that ilk. I am assuming KP hasn't totally lost his mind, and understands the difference between what assets to keep and which are expendable for the right return. Put it this way: if the L*kers had an asset comparable to the RLEC, would they use it? Would they settle for being the favorite for the #1 seed in the West, or would they grab the chance to get better?
The Lakers would make a deal if it was going to help them get better. The problem is that no one on this message board really knows what is out there and available. Or if they do know, they can't say anything. So we don't really know what would help the team or not. I do think KP would pull the trigger on a Bayless for Butler deal, since Butler makes Portland way better. Conceivable better then Bayless ever would. The fact KP hasn't pulled that trigger means that deal isn't available. At least, not yet. The deadline is still 6 days away. If KP does a deal, it will be on the final day at the last minute. That is when the desperate will be be willing to give up to the most for the least. I don't expect him to make any real deals until then. During the game last night, it was mentioned that KP is getting pissed that other teams are mentioning his players in deals. From the sounds of it, he was trying to imply that none of the talked about deals had anything to do with what the team. I would also guess that if KP does make a deal, it will come out of left field and be much better then anyone here would think possible. That is the only kind of deal I say KP making. Some absurd thing the Carter and Harris for RLEC and Frye.
