dude, seriously? marion and banks are moving to another city together again? hahaha! well i don't know how j.o. will fit in miami, they don't really have a good center right? and they seem a bit undersized so maybe j.o. would be a good fit.. does this mean amare is not going to miami? haha
I like it......Marion was a waste in that system, O'Neal is a big man, Beasely will now have more of an opportunity to develop, and J.O.'s contract is off the books in 2010 for "the" free agent class............
IMO Toronto wins talent wise but I agree with dream that Marion wasn't being used to his full potential plus there was a logjam at 3/4 with Marion, Beasley, Haslem. Perhpas the Heat think O'Neal will be better when hes got the paint to himself and hes not stepping on Chris Bosh's toes. He'll be able to operate in the low post, play alongside Wade, and have a nice dirty work guy like Haslem next to him (I suppose he was the dirty work C next to Bosh lol). The Heat needed a big body who could protect the paint as well and O'Neal still appears to be able to do that. Oh yeah and his contract expires in 2010 which is arguably better than Marions which expires this year. This offseason will be pretty mediocre and no one's going to spend at all. Jerm-O's expiring contract will be a BEAST asset at the 2010 trade deadline.
I don't really think it matters that Marion's contract expires a year earlier, it is getting Banks' salary off by 2010 that makes it overall more valuable.
WOW! Miami got the better part of the deal! JO + Moon + 1st rd. pick + 4.2M trade exception... Just as long as JO stays healthy thats the key. Both teams benefit from the trade. Marion needs a Nash type player to produce, he has that again in Calderon. The Heat now have a more formidable lineup Chalmers - Wade - Beasley - Haslem - JO with Blount, Moon coming off the bench. That counts out Miami and Toronto for the Amare sweepstakes though.
