Are you saying this with some sort of knowledge on the subject? I hope you are! We need to dodge all of the bullets that we can.
Well since I was a paramedic for six years and suffered the same injury as a wrestler in my Senior year of high school, I actually do in fact "know" something about this. As long as the knee cap is structurally intact (which it sounds like it is) then this is nothing a week of rest, with ice and motrin won't take care of.
Sweet. I wasn't quesitoning your diagnosis or anything. I was just looking for a little information to substantiate your thoughts. Anytime I hear the words fracture, knee and Oden in the same sentence, I get a tiny bit scared. Thanks
The Oden V Bynum matchup could be fun to watch for the next 10-15 years. Or, one or both of them will be hurt all of the time and it will never develop. Does anyone know which one it will be?
Thank you so much. I felt more relieved when it he said he was still going back to Indiana tomorrow morning instead of Portland. I figured if it was anything major (structural or ligament) he would have been returning to Portland as soon as possible to seek other opinions and treatment. This is good news.
Well....Bynum has suffered more serious injuries than Oden has....so, well..... Hopefully Bynum can make this "rivalry" interesting one day.
Durant goes off for 46 points; Oden gets a 1 minute interview in which he guffaws about the timing of his injuries. I really feel bad for the guy. I bet that was hard for him to turn on "Happy Greg". EDIT - hadn't seen the bone chip in the knee. I'd imagine they will have to clean that up at some point if it isn't absorbed. Also - how did he chip a bone by bumping knees? Another "freak" injury, I guess.
The fact that he's an athlete and large has nothing to do with a chip fracture, bone is bone ... and the patella is not even a weight bearing bone, so I'm not sure I see your point.
Without seeing the MRI or X-Rays it's hard to say where the "chip" occured, but my guess is that a small piece at the perimeter or possibly even a flake off of the top surface broke free. Irritating, possibly painful, but I seriously doubt it's anything to sweat.
We will see Oden in the starting lineup Wednesday vs. the Grizzle If he were seriously hurt he would not have shown up to the game AT ALL
Actually if he were seriously hurt he would have likely shown up in order to fulfill endorsement obligations. I have to say, I did notice he parsed his tenses when asked about his knee. It certainly wasn't a definitive yes, I'm OK and ready to go. This may be due to potenitialy being accused of ducking the AS weekend.
Yes, I'm fully aware that it occured in his patella, I meant where on his patella, how large is the chip, etc. The devil's in the details as they say, and since the report didn't specify anything except the most generic information it's hard to state anything definitive about his prognosis ... but the bottom line is that it's probably not anything to lose sleep over.
I think if it was to bad he wouldn't have to go. It did say he practice with the rookie team so it couldn't be that bad.
One word comes to mind when reading this thread ... HYPERSENSITIVE. Jeesh people get a grip Greg slammed kneecaps with Maggette and suffered a little chip of bone. Something that honestly if they hadn't done and MRI would probably never have been known and this would have been written off as a bruise, that he would have rested tonight since the game is meaningless, and be ready to go on Wednesday. BTW FWIW my mom tripped in a parking lot back in october and shattered her patella into 3 distinct pieces. That's a little more serious, but still the only fix for that was rest.
