If this is legit, where does Bibby/Smith put the Blazers in the West? Bibby, who's still playing at a high level, is he a big enough upgrade to vault Portland into contenders?
I think he could be. Bibby was never good enough to be THE GUY in Sac, but he was one of the guys that made that team great. Webber was THE guy, Bibby and Peja were pieces that helped the engine run smoothly. I think he could do that again here, similarly to how he has done it in Atlanta. Smith.. not so sure. He fits our window, and I think he could be the kind of small forward this team needs.
Bibby still has a lot left in the tank. He's exactly what this team needs. Not only does his game complement Brandon Roy to a T, he also brings a ton of playoff experience.
That's not what I read. I read a poster claiming to have spoken with multiple GM's and has inside info. Maybe one of us should re-read the original post.
deleted yeah, there's a (good?) chance the poster is making all this up. Which is why the thread treated it as any other "trade suggestion" thread, figuring out how or which way the rumored incoming players would fit with the team. Nobody is claiming this is a done deal, even the OP.
The discussion that followed the OP's claim has hardly been a bunch of rubes buying what dafferduck is selling. I was refuting your baseless claim that everyone here is gullible and eating up what he's dishing. But, yeah I'm the one with reading comprehension issues.
Obviously you are. Every last poster bought this chumps story. Nobody questioned his nonsense story. And everybody went along with the thread like it was a serious rumor.
You really seem to be in a mood to pick a fight (PMing me, quoting me out of context, etc.) ... I'm tempted to oblige, but frankly you don't bring enough "heat" to make it "interesting." Anyway, Happy Valentine's Day.
That is hilarious. You must be new to message boards. Or think we are all rookies. Most of us have all been around long enough to know that only about 1 % of "rumors" ever come true. Have you ever seen the 5 team 25 player trade scenarios? Yeah those will happen. But people still like to throw them out there. We are all opionionated and apparently have few other outlets to discuss the NBA. Or at least to discuss the Blazers.
Nate McMillan would not sign off on a trade for a PG who plays defense as weak as Mike Bibby does. Bibby might be some coaches ideal PG, but Bibby's matador defense would drive Coach McMillan insane. As far as what the Blazers want from a SF, defense is item 1, but right behind that is a wing players ability to hit threes. Blazers need to open the floor up for Greg Oden and LaMarcus Aldridge, not bring someone else who will crowd up the paint more.
That is a ridiculous comment.... Seriously...that would drive Nate more insane than the "stellar" defense of Steve Blake or Sergio Rodriguez? You are joking right? Bibby is not a great defender, but he is an adequete one, certainly a better defender than either Sergio or Blake, and a DEFINITE upgrade at the PG position in general...IMO it is not even close.... As for the 2nd comment, yes they need a defender at SF and they need another player who can create offense for himself....>We have plenty of shooters (Rudy, Webster, Roy, Blake, LA)...What we need is a guy who teams have to respect as a 3rd scorer alongside Roy & LA, b\c Oden is not there yet (but he will be eventually)...That is whay a guy like Caron Butler is so enticing...can defend, can score effectively etc.... Marvin Williams (or Josh Smith) have the capability to do that as well....Personally I like Williams better, and that is perhaps why....IF....Smith were traded it would be to clear space...SALARY space for Marvin Williams, b\c Horford is certainly going to command top dollar as well...and frankly, I seriously question whether or not ATL can even absorb three max\near max contracts....VERY few teams in the NBA can as a matter of fact...
It's an accurate comment. Blake plays better defense than Bibby. Bibby's defense is the reason the Blazers never made a move for Bibby when he was being shopped around by the Kings, and will remain the reason the Blazers make no moves for him. Sergio's matador defense was the primary reason Jerryd Bayless got significantly more playing time than Sergio while Steve Blake was hurt the last 3 weeks. Caron Butler is exactly the type of SF the Blazers would like to make a move for. 35% from 3 on 185 attempts last year. Close to that again this year. Both Webster and Batum are better prospects than Marvin Williams. As far as Smith, again, the Blazers are not going to make a move for another starter that would crowd the paint more than than it already is.
If this hypothetical went through, Josh Smith starts at the 3. You live with what he isn't because of what he is. He'd be like a new and improved Jerome Kersey and would bring a lot to the starting lineup. I agree with projections that Bibby probably has some tread left. Dude struggled with hand/wrist issues for a while but has remained healthy for about a year now. He's playing at a high level and would seem a tremendous compliment to Roy... hell the whole starting lineup. His window would probably only be for 3-4 years, but he'd be another borderline All Star with a team first game. I'd try to part with other things first, but Bibby and Smith would be a tremendous haul STOMP
