This AS weekend has sucked so far IMO. None of the events really have got me exited at all.

    1. HORSE- This could have been really fun but it sucked. Kevin Durant started 0-7. He would grab the ball and just fling it up there. He truly didnt give a rats ass to start. Ernie kept on ragging on him and I think Durant was getting pissed at him. Webber and Smith had him come over and recommended a shot and Durant totally blew them off. Josh Smith was the only one who actually prepared by coming up with some interesting shot ideas. All of a sudden Durant goes on a hot streak and wins. Shit was boring as hell, thank god for tivo. Next year they should have old timers involved and not have a ref. The ref made it so the players didnt talk to each other about the shot they were gonna make.

    2. Shoot-out (or whatever its called)- This is always a lame event. Im sick of watching Bill Lambeer shoot half court shots for the past 5 years. Just lame.

    3. Skills Challenge-
What a joke. The NHL (and I hate hockey)has this style of event right. NBA doesnt. Nobody cares and the participants arent the best "skilled" players. They have had good players in this event in the past but this year was sorta lame. They players dont even come close to trying 100%. OOOOO players going around glorified cones at half speed...sign me up

3pt shooting- Uh...can anybody shoot anymore? NOBODY impressed at all in any round. It was just about who sucked less. Congrats to the new best 3pt shooter in the NBA...some guy on the Heat and I already forgot his name...:sigh: BTW what was up with Reggie Miller bash R. Lewis soo much...my next topic

    The Miller Siblings
    - WTF is wrong with these two? While I never thought Reggie was that good I never thought he was this bad. Holy shit he wouldnt STFU and was constantly getting in pissing matches with Kenny Smith. I was so happy that every prediction he made was horribly wrong. What an ass. Cheryl Miller was an ass too. After whats his name won the 3pt shootout and was being presented the trophy Cheryl talked about how Reggie and Kenny thought he didnt deserve to be there and his form sucked....yet didnt give him a chance to give them a snide/joking remark back. It pretty much was " Hey, we all think you suck, but here is your trophy" Fricking lame.

    Dunk Contest-
I just knew it would suck. People were expecting too much. The judges were the worst ever. It was already bad but they made it much worse by giving BS scores. I honestly think Rudy had the best dunk of the night when he teamed up with Pau. He moved that ball 5 feet with one hand from an awkward angle for that dunk. It sucked it took several tries but that shouldnt drop the score...but you know it did. D12 first 50 score was a joke. Nates jump off a teammate was a joke (he didnt get any higher than normal). I cant even remember a JR dunk. D12 could have gone higher than 12ft. He should have practiced and see how far he could go. D12 letting Nate jump over him was lame too. Can you at least fake that you want to win it? You say you dont care if you win when you do that. lame lame lame

The "Bill Russell" Championship Trophy- Are you fucking kidding me?!?!? Bill Russell is great and all but this is BS IMO. Hell Bill Russell might be the most deserving of this honor but I dont think ANYBODY should get thisw honor....especially a Celtic!!!! Now when the Lakers win the 'ship its the "Bill Russell award"...Fuck that!

I can only hope the actual game will save this weekend from being a total waste. That, and I wanna see video of the dance off between Kenny Smith, The Glove, and Webber at Kenny's big party!

    ...end rant

For the most part I agree that this is a very boring AS weekend. I'm with you and at least hope the All Star game is good.

Hopefully the AS game is fun. Would be awesome to see the West win and Roy get MVP!!! That would make the AS weekend all worth it.

Agreed, DR. The dunk contest was a huge letdown and it shows that the event is either fixed or the judges don't know squat about dunking. On top of that, the 3 point shooting was terrible (nobody cracked 20) and the skills competition was lame. I agree 100% with your post.

They need to have some dollar figures behind performances in order for players to give a shit about what they do.

I don't think the competition was literally fixed, but I think the judges wanted to see a "midget versus giant" final, and let that influence their scores.

I hope stereotypes (white/European vs black/American) weren't in play, but it's entirely possible.

All in all, a pretty silly event that reminded me why I so rarely watch All-Star events anymore.

Good for him. He is one of the best ambassadors of the game too. I didnt say he wasnt qualified IF they were gonna name the award after somebody...I just dont think anybody should get that honor...especially a person who is very connected to one particular team. Now the Celtics are forever connected to the ACTUAL TROPHY even if their team sucks....Every year we gotta be reminded that the Celtics were so great all those years back. Winning the trophy themselves and having all those players going to the HOF should be honor enough!

Soooo.... it was fixed then. Seeing as that's basically the definition.

No, "fixed" is having it decided ahead of time. Bias is related but not exactly the same thing.

Amen...the players treat this as a joke which I think really is disrespectful to the fans.

Well you said the judges wanted to see a specific matchup in the finals and judged the 1st round accordingly. Clearly the result WAS decided ahead of time in the minds of the judges and therefore in the results.

We can split hairs here, but the bottom line is it's complete bullshit.

My point is that I don't think they purposely attempted to tailor the results. I think they thought they were fair, but their biases affected their perceptions. It's a question of whether it was deliberate or not.

    I agree.

i agree with everything dar rizzle said except the bill russell award............Bill is a pioneer of the game and I think he's certainly worthy of having the finals mvp named after him.........

DaRizzle, not sure if you caught it, but it's not the Finals trophy, it's the Finals MVP trophy that is named after Russell. Not sure if that makes it any better for you.

You do realize that it's the "Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award", right? As opposed to the "Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy"?

Different awards, dude. The team that wins the Finals gets the Larry O'Brien award. The player that wins the Finals MVP gets the Bill Russell award.
