Just curious. I can't see New Orleans dumping Paul just to save money. And I can't see them taking bench players either. But, offering Oden, a PG and expiring contracts . . .

I would do the trade because I think CP3+Joel is >> Oden+[current PGs]. Paul has already proven he is a superstar. Oden, may someday, or he may not. He is also a very big boy who's body is having a hard time keeping up with him (health-wise).

Don't get me wrong--I like Oden a lot. But, CP3, Roy, [Webs/Outlaw/Rudy], Aldridge and Joel would compete this year in the playoffs and probably compete for a title for the next ten years.

Hmmm. It doesn't seem that similar to me for several reasons.

    1) Lebron is top 1 or 2 in the league. CP3 may be top 3-7.
    2) Oden's value is much higher than Aldridge's
    3) Cleveland isn't trying to save money right now, N.O. is
    4) Cleveland is competing for a title this year with Lebron, N.O. isn't with Paul

before the changes in the ways bigs are officiated, and before the change in the hand-check rules it would be a hard decision, but I'd probably still take Paul. With the current rules officiating I'd take Paul in a split second.

LeBron and Paul are probably 1 and 2.

I do agree that Oden's value and ceiling are much higher than Aldridge's, though.

In any case, I would absolutely trade Oden for Paul, and I'm one of the people most encouraged by Oden. Oden has the talent to be a once-a-generation big man. Paul already is a once-a-generation point guard. So Oden could end up being what Paul is, in terms of impact. No-brainer, of course you take Paul.

Every GM in the league would trade Oden for Paul.

So do most of you feel like N.O. wouldn't even consider this deal? I'm not great cap guy, so I can't figure out how to do a simple trade that works with CP's base year salary, but, if you could take on Chandler's salary, Peja's (both?) and/or throw in Bayless with Oden, wouldn't that be at least tempting?

    NO Loses: CP3

NO Gains: Oden, Bayless, $30-40M in savings per year.

I know most of us aren't L@ker fans here, but I think most put Kobe and LeBron in the top two spots.

No, I don't think they would. If Oden were having a Shaq-like rookie season, maybe. But since Paul is already a once-a-generation talent, they definitely can't risk trading him for someone who might be one but hasn't yet become one.

I love Kobe Bryant as a player. He's been one of my favourite players to watch for a number of years. I don't rank Kobe lower because of dislike of him or the Lakers. He's fallen off a bit from his peak and Paul is amazingly good.

Kobe is top-five and might well be the third-best player, but I don't think he's a better player than either James or Paul.

I would trade both Roy & LMA for CP3. I know many would strongly disagree, but I think he's that good. He could probably even make Frye look like a good player if he were running the point for this team.

N.O. would tell us to take a leaping dive.

You don't trade a PG like Paul for a player made of glass.

Ha, I expected this to be 60/40 yes. Well done, Blazer fans. There is hope for you yet. I wonder what it would've been before the season, or before last season.

Just because he passes a little more doesnt mean he still cant dominate. Kobe is more clutch than Lebron and has a better J. Those are the two thing IMO that make him 1a to Lebrons 1b
