http://mmajunkie.com/news/13989/report-canadian-commission-demands-rule-changes-for-ufc-97.mma I'm very interested in seeing what happens. The UFC will not change there rules, but can they change the venue and everything by April?
Re: Canadian commision wants rule changes for UFC 97 Bizarre. How could the commission not know about UFC 83, unless they are grossly incompetent? Also, MMA has been going on in Quebec for years, with the UCC/TKO and other orgs. I already have my tickets to UFC 97 so they'd better get their act together. This isn't encouraging: The UFC is not going to change their rules to accommodate this random decision by a disorganized commission.
Re: Canadian commision wants rule changes for UFC 97 Seems like this is just a knee-jerk reaction to the debacle that was StrikeBox.
Re: Quebec commision wants rule changes for UFC 97 This is why the problem has arisen, for anyone who doesn't know. Strikebox was an event put on in Montreal by former TKO prez Stephan Patry (sp?). The show was supposed to feature all of the stand up from MMA, with small gloves, but no ground fighting. Apparently James Thompson didn't get the memo and this chaos ensued when he tried to take Mike Bosse down:
Re: Quebec commision wants rule changes for UFC 97 According to Sherdog, nearly 13,000 tickets have already been sold for UFC 97, which is kind of surprising because the newsletter presale is set to go on today, and the general ticket sale isn't until tomorrow! Odds are the UFC says hey, we've already had this event booked for months, let us do it and pump $10-million into the local economy, then we'll not come back for a while to let you sort your shit out. Otherwise we'll relocate and refund all the tickets and make you guys look like complete assholes.
Re: Quebec commision wants rule changes for UFC 97 In an absolutely necessary move, UFC executives Marc Ratner, Dana White, and others are on their way to Quebec to meet with the Athletic Commission to sort this shit out.
Oh shit, I hope Dana video blog's that meeting. Because if it doesn't work out, he'll drop more F bombs than he ever has.
Yeah, Dana might have a stroke at the meeting if Le Quebecois don't recognize. I can see him losing it.
