I'm a huge Oden fan. I love his future and am not at all worried about his future, etc. I still think he'll become a top 1 or 2 center in the NBA and I wouldn't bet against him ending up in the HoF. BUT... Chris Paul is the best PG in the game. One of the best players in the game right NOW. Yes, I make the trade. Ed O.
He's been worse for a few years and watching him, it's pretty clear he's not at his peak anymore. Kobe always passed the ball well, that's not new. Yes, it's great that you're loyal to the player on your team. "Having a better J" is meaningless. Nash has more skills than a prime Shaq, but Shaq was far better. It's not what tools you have, it's which player is more productive and James is significantly more productive than Kobe. Paul is somewhat more productive, too. As for clutch, we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't think any player has magical clutch capabilities. Neither Kobe nor James gets worse late in the game.
I read somewhere that Kobe only makes 25% of his potential game winning shots. In any case, I'd pick James over Kobe- both are good on both sides of the ball, but Lebron is slightly more productive and seems to make his teammates better than Kobe does. I would put Howard as the 3rd best- probably the best defender and the best interior scorer in the league. 4th best- maybe Chris Paul.
Here's my argument for my no vote. As of right now, Paul is by far the superior player. Oden has great potential, but nobody's quite sure what the ceiling level is. That said, even if Paul maintains his overall superiority as a player, good point guards come along in every draft. Not CP3-level, perhaps, but good ones who could work with the dominant front line that Oden and Aldridge promise in the next few years. Big guys with as much potential as Oden are rare. I'd stick with Oden. Now ask me if I'd trade Martell Webster for CP3. Damn you, John Nash.
I totally disagree in regards to James. Yes he has had clutch moments but he still chokes up every so often. Put James on the line in a late game situation and see what happens
http://www.82games.com/0809/CSORT11.HTM He's just fine this season though, and he doesn't struggle as much as Bron with his shot in the playoffs the last few years.
Which fits my point. There isn't some "clutch ability" that separates players...players play to their ability, by and large, and random variance is the main effect on such small samples as "clutch times" in any particular season. They've both had their ups and downs in the playoffs. Kobe has had some notably awful elimination games. I think Kobe is a brilliant player, and I would certainly never make the argument that he's "anti-clutch." I simply don't think there's anything to the idea that a "clutch" ability separates Kobe from anyone else. Kobe is a great player...in quarter 1 or quarter 4.
Every time I watch CP3, it burns me to think he was on the cusp of becoming a Blazer, if only KP were running the show. But I'm pretty stoked with Roy/LMA/Oden. And yeah, I think I'd trade Greg for CP3.
I think the Clutch ability is even more overblown in Football due to that being much more of a team sport, but that is such a tangent so sorry for mentioning that. :O
I selected no. The only player I'd trade Oden for is James. I think Oden will be a excellent center and will get us more championships than not having him and having Paul. By time this team is ready to win a championship I have confidence we'll have the PG we need without giving up Oden.
The thing I took from the AS game is that I think that Chris Paul is the best in the NBA, or at least is 1b with LeBron. And of course you do this... kinda silly.
Well, I had Paul anywhere from 2-4 (probably 2, but maybe 2b), but that guy is simply special. I think he had the best game out of anyone last night and should have won the MVP, but scoring is by far the most important category for games like that... I think watching him play just confirmed my opinion that he is not only a great player, but right up there with the absolute best in the league. If I had never watched an NBA game before last night though, i'd say he was the best in the game. 14 points and 14 assists is much more impressive than 27 points on 23 shots in my opinion. Shaq was also super impressive, but their [the East's] lack of big guys helped him a lot. Taking into account last year and this year, I think Paul has been the 2nd best overall player, or at least 2b to Kobe with LeBron at 1. But yeah, after last night I just moved him from #2 to 1b. I could watch that guy play for days and never get sick of it.
I voted yes. I love Oden, and I think he will be good in the future. But the league is a guard dominated league now, and CP3 has the potential to be one of the 3 best point guards of all time. His presence would make every single player on the team better. I can't see any way you don't make that trade. Paul + Roy + LA + Joel + Rudy = Title.
Well around the third quarter the game really looked over, the effort didn't seem to be there anymore. Paul could have won the MVP but I've just never really respected the All-Star game as any type of important barometer; I'm sure he could care less too. Also, LeBron missed a wide open dunk terribly on his second to last shot, I can't remember the last time that occurred with him in a real game. Lol that surprised me incredibly out of any other moment . His peers were polite though and gave him an open lane purposely to make up for it as time expired.
I would certainly trade Martell Webster and Jarrett Jack for Chris Paul. Ah, the John Nash days... In effect, this would be trading away Oden. For all the people who are dithering over whether we were wrong to take Oden over Durant, I'm of the opinion that even if Oden's career ended tomorrow, not taking Paul was a bigger fuckup by the Portland front office. I'm pretty sure we could've had a shot at Roy the next year, so we could have had a backcourt of Paul and Roy. We very likely could've had Jefferson and Paul if Nash hadn't've been in charge. But that's an old scab, not worth picking.
