TBH, he's gotten burned on defense quite a few times this seasons, and not necessarily by good players either.

Yes he's a good defensive player......when compared to everyone else on the team.

Wallace is a great defender, and also provides offense.

I would be fine with giving up Batum, or Rudy for that matter, to get either Wallace or Butler, but I really don't want to give up Bayless. If I had my druthers, Roy, LMA, Oden and Bayless would remain Blazers.

According to the Mikes Charlotte wants Webster badly. I'd much rather trade Webster than Batum. I challange anyone to name one player other than Batum that as a 19 year old rookie on a playoff team was asked to defend the opposing teams best player every game? One player.

I'd prefer Butler than Wallace but it depends on what each team wants. If Char wanted Webster, that would be too tough to pass on.
I would give up Rudy for Butler but not for Wallace..man please get one of these 2!!!!!

If we can get Butler you have to get him. He is a straight-up citizen, can make the last-second shots, is among the best theifs in the league, and makes his free throws to boot. Not the best 3-point shooter, but a little better than G.Wallace.

However, realize that Butler has had some injury history in the past as well. In fact, he's averaged 60 games a year for the past two seasons. Wallace is a better shot blocker, gets less points, but at least is improving his FT% significantly it would appear. I would be very happy with either of them, and I do think that G.Wallace is more likely. Butler is more like Roy in that he can create his own shot (so there is some redundancy) whereas Wallace has shown the ability to slide over and play the PF position effectively and thus there is some versatility in the lineup that wouldn't exist with Butler.

I am against trading Bayless and Batum, and watching Oden and Webster (not to mention both of their cheap contracts...especially Webster's) make me reluctant to trade them. But in order to get the big guns you have to do it sometimes. If we can make this work using a combination of Sergio/Frye/Diogu/RLEC/Outlaw/Webster, then you had to do you. You'd think that some combination of those players, even if it's RLEC+Outlaw+Webster can get it done. Given Rudy and Batum's play, we should be confident with their abilities to man the position. Trading away Webster is harmless because we've played all year without him...it's like trading away another Ghost contract with regards to how the rotation will work.

Like I said, I'm all down for either of them. Up until now I probably would have said I would choose Caron, but looking at their injury history and relatively similar numbers from the 3-point line, I have to wonder if Wallace would end up being a better fit given what we would have to give up to get him. I just don't like many of the other players on Charlotte that we'd have to take back in order for the salaries to match up right.

But we should try to keep Bayless and Batum, who despite sliding on draft day, were project as top-5 picks at one time or another.

At least it's encouraging to hear day by day that Caron is more and more available when as soon as last week, it seemed like he was untouchable. Please bring on Caron!!

Re: Five deals that should happen at the trade deadline!

I've read several articles now suggesting that Caron might be moved to keep Washington out of the luxury tax, since Arenas and Jamison aren't going anywhere due to inflated contracts. That's the similar situation to how Gasol got moved last year. I would have thought he was untouchable, but maybe not due to financial reasons.

Getting him or Wallace would be a coup. Wallace is probably a bit better on defense, Butler is certainly better on offense, both are young with good contracts. Bring it baby.

Re: Five deals that should happen at the trade deadline!

He is a big part of our team, like it or not.
Highest percentage of any player making game winning shots with at least 5 attempts, gets along with everyone, keeps us loose, and our longest tenured player.
We would be incredible stupid to trade him.

    Gerald Wallace = Please
Caron Butler = Pretty Please, with Sergio sauce sprinkled on top.

I could see Larry Brown being interested in Frye again too. Maybe we could throw him in and take back May?

keep in mind that as of the summer league no one thought batum would be on the blazers active roster let alone a starter. he'll only get better. i think we should keep him. sergio can go. frye can go, and outlaw or webster need to go, but i'd keep batum for now.

Re: Five deals that should happen at the trade deadline!

Even if that was a deal breaker? And keeping Batum meant no Caron Butler or Gerald Wallace? Batum is a very nice prospect, but I'm tired of potential, if I can get a fringe All-Star at the 3 for him I think you would be crazy not to do it

Agreed. Butler for Batum? I sign off on that trade.

I like Batum but I would do that deal. We add another scorer and clear minutes for Bayless to play.
