Blazers make offer for Vince Carter

Except Sheed was always known as a consummate team player and good defender. Does VC fit that mold?

 

Just like the Blazer fans on JJ, Outlaw or some other whipping boy. If there anything like the Blazers fans it is not always correct.

 

I am wondering if VC is at the stage where he is willing to do anything to get a chance at a ring. If he does - he could do wonders for Portland - because a motivated VC is a very very good player - better than all the other 3 mentioned. Granted, he is older and the window of using him will be much shorter - but if he really is motivated (and he seems to be this year) - he is a stud.

Actually Vince Carter is a pretty unselfish player. He only takes about 16 shots per game and has always been a decent passer. He is not a ballhog. Vince for whatever reason has gotten that trait, but it's completely false. If he was he wouldn't have let Jefferson be the main focal point for the Nets the last two years they played together, and also this year, he's allowed Harris to be an all-star.

 

i like the addition of Carter, but am hesitant in letting outlaw go. He's a good fit with the blazer's and even coming off the bench as a 4th quarter specialist he just seems like a guy that wouldn't ever complain about playing time. i like him too as a back up power forward to aldridge. so any trade for vince carter that keeps outlaw makes me happy. frye said tonight on the fan that he wants to play and if he has to get traded he's ok with that. so trade him. trade sergio, throw in the rlec, and then the blazers can alwasy throw in draft picks. i'm not saying all of that for vince, but just some combination of that. bottom line keep outlaw.

 

Injury prone, cancer and chemistry issues are all a lie.

He's been healthy for some time now and it's not that hard to see that. He has been great being on a losing team and not complaining. He's helped the rookies a lot as you can tell they look up to him as he is the Nets captain. The reason he is on the block has nothing to do with him needing a change of place because the fans and the managment love him, it's just a cost cutting move for the future.

The Rockets offer looks a little better actually. If the GM were trying to just shed his contract, it would look better to the fans if he at least got some bigger names in return like Artest and Battier. If the article is true, I'm sure they'd choose the Rockets offer over ours.

 

If he is all that why did he quit on his teammates in Toronto? I tend not to look past things like that. I could care less what he does the rest of his life. He is a quitter and a terrible teammate. Many Blazer fans were not tired of or embarrassed by the actions of the "Jailblazers," but I was. Sheed may have won a title in Detroit but he was one of the losers in the yellow hummer smoking weed cruising down I-5 with Damon. Lets not even discuss technical fouls and leaving his teammates hanging.

But back to Carter, hell no. Keep his quiting ass out of Portland. He will not like it as it is to small for him and his over-inflated ego. It would only be a matter of time until he demanded a trade and quit on the Blazers as well.

Didn't we have Carter rumore before? Didn't he say he would not report to Portland if traded a few of years ago? I know Kidd did, but I could have sworn Carter did as well. Anyways, no to Carter, again.

 

I'm betting this is either a three-team deal sending Vince to one of the other SF dealing teams or a bluff to one of our other potential partners who want RLEC and cheap young talent, but want to package a bad contract. If he's actually coming to us, then we probably couldn't get Butler or Wallace for anything close to this.

 

I have serious doubts as to whether there is any truth to this rumor. Just yesterday Ford is saying our principle interest is in Wallace, Butler and Jefferson. Why would we be suddenly interested in a guy 4-6 years older? I think that when a GM wants to put out a rumor, that he will often put out Portland's name because people know Portland is always very active and KP has a policy of not commenting on rumors (hence no chance of denial).

Also, I noticed at the end of Chad Ford's chat yesterday, that he said he had to finish because he had an incoming call from a GM. First I think that tells something about how small a man Ford is that he had to try to impress people by mentioning that, and a small man is easily manipulated. Also, why would a GM be voluntarily calling him, if not to plant a rumor?

 

1. He's a decent defender. Not great, but decent. I'm sure that with less pressure on him to score, he would be an even better defender.
2. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. He's the undisputed leader of the Nets this season and he has done an amazing job. The young players (especially Devin Harris) respect him A LOT.
3. He has no problem with not getting a lot of shots. He's been happily playing second fiddle to Harris and sometimes Lopez this season and taking over when the team needs him. He'll take as much shots as the team needs him to take.
4. You need veterans to win championships.
5. His contract is expensive but for a great player who has barely missed games in the past 5 years and has learned to play well without relying on his athleticism, it is certainly worth it for a contending team like Portland.

Please don't compare Carter to the "Jailblazers". He did quit on his team in Toronto, but in the past 5 years he has been a model of leadership while the Nets have been pretty crappy most of the time. This season, the Nets were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league, yet mainly because of his dedication and hard work they are relevant. Tonight against Houston he and Brook Lopez were the only players who gave a genuine effort throughout the whole game. You're talking about the 2004 version of Vince Carter, but we're in 2009. Players change.

 

The reason this deal would be OK is that it gives us a $3 Mil exemption.

Do we really need a 10-year veteran whose best years are behind him?

I'd much rather get an up-and-coming player who can grow and mature with this team and reach his peak about the time Roy and Aldridge and Oden are at their prime.

 

You people understand NOTHING about Vince Carter. He is a mindboggling athlete and a winner. He plays hurt. He never whines. So he was honest and frustrated as a 25-year old five years ago. Big fucking deal. This is a guy who cares more about assists and getting his teammates involved than scoring points. This is a guy who played the last four months last year on an ankle that required surgery the week after the season ended, despite the fact that it became clear that the Nets were going nowhere. Since becoming a Net, he has missed fewer games than ANY superstar. He is also very, very clutch. You can look it up.

 

Carter would be a huge downgrade in every sense of the word if we are truly still attempting to be a longtime contender in this league.

Bringing him on board pretty much puts us back 10 years to the Whitsitt method of bringing in overpaid, over-rated soon-to-be hasbeens, and makes a liar out of KP.

I'm not sure I buy the Carter rumor either. I highly doubt he'll be a Blazer.

 

The thread title is misleading as Ford never quotes any Portland personnel in any way, which is normal as he gets all his "info" from the Nets.

Nowhere does he say Portland offered anything for Carter, or even that they would consider taking him if it was for free.

Bottom line is probably that the Nets offered him for some Blazers, and KP said no thanks. There is nothing in the article to suggest otherwise, and no reason to believe otherwise.
