okay i'm going to give the core, what's missing, and how we can build off of it.Paul Pierce:Obviously the team leader. He plays with a passion, and he's possibly a top 5-10 player in the league, especially lately. He has transformed from just a scorer, to an all-around player and a LEADER, just what this team needed.Strengths- Scoring, clutch, leadership, all-around play, HEART.Weaknesses- defense (at times).Delonte West:IMO, the team's second best player. He is very good offensively, as he can drain 3's and take it to the basket. He has shown incredible range and decision-making on the floor. He excells in pick-and-roll situations, and can score almost at will. Gives it his all on the floor, on both ends. He's the kind of guy where if he's on your team, you love him, but if he's on the other team, you hate him. He does all the little things, along with the big things like scoring and defense. He's very underrated within the league.Strengths- Shooting, scoring, decision-making, HEART.Weaknesses- Not alot. inconsistency on the defensive end. not the truest PG, has trouble protecting the ball against athletic defenders (ahem, Smush Parker).Wally Szczerbiak:Best team player we have. With all his ability to score, i'm really surprised at his unselfishness. He's the reason Paul Pierce is playing so well as of late. He's keeping the flor spread, and he's moving the ball quicky, allowing little help D on Paul. He's also an underrated defender, his rotations are perfect. He's not the quickest guy, but he moves his fett and hustles. We really did get a steal with that trade.Strengths-Shooting, scoring, teamwork, intangibles, HEART.Weaknesses- One-on-one defense.Kendrick Perkins:Absolute beast on the boards. The best shotblocker we've had since possibly Russell (yeah i know, probably a stretch). He could easily some day become a 13 rebounds/3.5 blocks player. He is weak on offense, but i'm not concerned. He is an excellent passer in fast break situations. He always seems to know where the PG is, and he gets the outlet pass out quickly. He could be a nice high post player, especially if he could develop some quickness or a mid-range (i don't see him adding any range to his shot though).Strengths-Rebounding, defense, shotblocking, HEART.Weaknesses-Anything to do with scoring.Al Jefferson:Best low-post scorer in recent history. He has a few go-to moves, instead of relying on one or two. It doesn't matter who's guarding him, he can score. Uses the shot-fake effectively, resulting in getting to the line often. He also makes FT's. He really needs to work on passing out of double-teams and such, but hopefully that will come with experience, hopefully.Strengths-Low-post threat, scoring, HEART.Weaknesses-Rookie-like decision making, passing/vision, defense (he fouls too much).Ryan Gomes:The steal of the '05 draft. He has a knack for the ball, chasing down loose balls and offensive rebounds. Maybe the smartest player on the team when age factors in. He finds seems and openings that only a handful of guys in the league can find. He knows how to get easy looks at the basket, and his effort is incredible. He's even finding rage, he hit a 3-pointer vs. Washington the other day. He can be a consistent double-double guy in the league.Strengths-Rebounding, smart play, scoring, teamwork, HEART.Weaknesses- Size. If that's the only thing you can come up with, you know the kid can play.Orien Greene and Gerald Green might eventually make the list.If you haven't noticed a common theme, these guys play with HEARt. Their intensity and passion on the floor is so encouraging, it lets me know there is a bright future in Boston. They give 100%, and you can't ask for much more than that. I love how these guys are playing lately; I don't think there's a Celtic fan in existence that doesn't like it. They're playing team ball, and they're getting after it. Man, I love this team!Missing Pieces:-There isn't really a "true" pg here, although there isn't one on about 27 teams. I'm looking for a quick PG that can excell in pick-and-roll situations, but will play team ball. One player that comes to mind is Speedy Claxton. There is also Mardy Collins in the draft, although he is not as quick.- No lock-down perimeter defenders. Tony Allen could've fit this role, but the knee has really held him back. This is where i think OG should fill in nicely. He has the size to guard most nba wing players, and i think it'd be better for him if his promary posish was SG, and he could fill in time at the point.EDIT: Format.
4 of our "core" players have only been in the league for 2 years (excluding kendrick because he didn't play as a rookie) so the future is bright. We have a future at all 5 positions.
