Read my post above yours. It can be, just not for salary-matching purposes. It can still be used as an incentive part of the deal to save the other team money.

Gay plus somebody. I just mentioned his name because I couldn't think of anybody else that wasn't in a rumor and we would be surprised. It could be anybody.

Makes sense then. It'd be two separate deals but look like one really.

I guess Amare. The buzz has completely died around him over the past few days.

Canzano is being fed a line of BS from the Blazers. He just said the Blazers saw a big deal going down with the Bulls/Kings and swooped in with Ike to grab a piece of it. For this to be true, someone in one of those organizations would have had to clue in the team to this deal. What a crock.

The team also told Canzanon that the TE can't be used with the RLEC. Well, that doesn't mean it can't be used in a separate trade with the same team, does it?

I fully expect Jason Quick to come on the radio and say he hasn't heard about any trades and that trades are stupid. He's above all things petty because he's Jason Fucking Quick.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Technically, it could be one deal. The NBA looks at it like this:

Suppose Portland did a RLEC/CFEC/Outlaw/Sergio/TE deal for Wallace/Mohammed (not checking if this works, because it's not relevant to my point). The NBA would turn RLEC/CFEC/Outlaw/Sergio into one "exception" and the TE would be another exception. Each would be a slot. Those slots could not be combined. The RLEC/CFEC/Outlaw/Sergio slot could be used for one player and the TE could be used for a different player. It's all the same deal, but they must be used on separate players. The first slot would be for Wallace and Mohammed, the second slot would be for some random roster flotsam that costs around $2.5 million. Portland gets Wallace, Mohammed and Random Bad Player, Charlotte gets RLEC/CFEC/Outlaw/Sergio/TE.

It wouldn't need to be structured as two deals.

I only took it as fact because he said he just spoke with KP about that, and Canzano said that RLEC couldn't be combined with the TE to get a player so he was right about that.
But yeah, now it makes sense that it can be now two trades combined into one.

The NBA would put the kabosh to the deal since Charlotte would be "circumventing the salary cap" by this sleight of hand.

Guys nobody has talked about much:

Mike Dunleavy, Carmelo Anthony, Rudy Gay, Josh Smith, Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette, James Posey, Tayshaun Prince, Hedo Turkoglu, Gilbert Arenas, Jose Calderon, Baron Davis, Ray Felton, TJ Ford, Jason Terry, Earl Watson, Antawn Jamison, Marvin Williams

I'm pretty disappointed by The O's trade-deadline coverage here with Quick and Freeman. Quick just seemed like an a-hole about trades during his Quick chat, and they haven't given any insight on anything going on as every other newspaper has had blogs on what's going on. Oh well..
