I don't know. Portland would be taking on a big, fat contract while New Jersey clears up a lot of cap space between RLEC/Frye. Plus New Jersey pays penny on the dollar for RLEC the rest of the season.

I have no problem with saving some cash and waiting to see what is out there this summer. Plus, New Jersey has much less flexibility to offer other FAs or other teams in a trade. Thorn messed up and he's on TV to try and spin the damage he just did to his franchise.

The rumors heard make it seem like a deal could of been made. And your right, it could have all been bullshit. , But if you don't flip your asset for anything (and have to give up assets this offseason to have more salary cap than the MLe is going to be anyways), I'm not going to commend you for a job well done. He dropped the ball on upgrading our team

I don't really care about New Jersey and how they make out, to be honest.

I think Carter would have been a HUGE upgrade for the team for the next few years and I'm disappointed that a Golden State 2011 first rounder would have been the thing that kept him off the Blazers team.

Well, that may be true, so that makes this summer more important, and the Nets just lost over $16 million in extra cap space this summer plus another $4 million in cash that insurance would pay for LaFrentz.

Almost $25 million under that cap this summer would have been nice, eh? Now the Nets have basically the same amount as the Blazers, who are much more poised to win at this stage.

Perhaps finances played a role in the decision. Allen already gave up control of his arena in much better financial times. I'm also not going to take Thorn at face value as he runs to TV cameras to try and explain why he didn't clear up $16 million in cap space for his franchise this summer.

Plus, you should care how NJ made out since they now have basically the same space under the cap as the Blazers do compared to 3x the space.

Keeping Vince carter doesn't hurt us that much. We still have the 3rd lowest payroll in the NBA so it's all good

Getting rid of Carter would have put the Nets over $25 million under the cap.

I agree about this. I also think that Batum going out with RLEC for Wallace would have been a mistake - so the only question I have based on the rumors are the VC for RLEC+Frye - which we have no idea how correct they were.

if we make a move this summer with our 'cap space', do we have until the season begins or June 30 to make a deal?

    More "Nuggets"

Agree on the Bucks having problems re-signing these guys. Disagree about no-one having money. If Portland is interested in Sessions (and I think they are - I think that if there is a KP mistake to be shown from the last couple of years it was taking Kopo instead of Sessions in 2007 - because Nate was very enthusiastic about Sessions after he auditioned for Portland in a pre-draft workout) - they will be able to pay him nicely and it might not even have to be more than what the Bucks are willing to offer - one would assume that Portland is a more appealing destination for a FA than the Bucks are at this point.

New Jersey could have had a crapload of money (>$25 million) and basically could have led the off-season market. Instead, Rod Thorn lets it be known that he didn't give his franchise this flexibility so he instead could hold on to a draft pick three years down the road and keep Vince Carter on a losing team. Can you say "bungle"?

Oh that's right: Bayless has had a 24 assist game, hasn't he?

I wonder if the team really likes what they see from Batum. I mean, the guy has rapidly improved since last summer and seems to be coming into his own recently. Perhaps the real target this summer is a PG. Perhaps someone like Sessions?

Having Sessions would mean Bayless could be dealt. He seems to be pretty valued.

I agree with Hollinger that Jefferson doesn't really represent much upgrade on Outlaw. "Missing out" on Jefferson doesn't bother me. If Wallace could have been had for Outlaw and RLEC and taking on Mohammed's contract, I'd be disappointed in not getting that, from a basketball standpoint.

But then, that may have been an untrue rumour and second, it's easy to spend other people's money. If Allen didn't want to take on a big contract in view of the big extensions on the way, I can't blame him.
