Just go an email from scout.com that OSU got a commitment from Angus Brandt, a 4 star center from Australia who's been playing at Lake Forest Academy. Looks like you need to be a member to read the story, but you can get some info at: http://oregonstate.scout.com/ Coach Robinson has been kicking ass and taking names on the recruiting front.
Congrats guys. Your basketball program is going in a completely different direction than our pathetic bball program right now.
In his path to enlightenment, MrJay is still stuck on the Duck level. With time, personal growth, tutoring, etc., he will hopefully elevate himself to Beav level before too long. (By the way, that was said in pure trash talking joy that MrJay has time and again proven capable of handling.)
Robinson is making Ernie Kent look really really bad. Given nothing, he's been successful beyond what anyone would have expected. Kent, with all the support and facilities and fancy uniforms money can buy is a lousy coach. Hard to believe they've kept him on as long as they have. Even harder to believe they'd want him to coach in the new arena.
Well, it's about time that the basketball program at OSU returns. It was one of the better programs in the nation for a while (with no titles though).
While I'd love to see a return to the Orange Express, it'll take time and wins to prove we're there. Other OSU coaches have had good recruiting their first year and then fallen off hugely. Coach R gets the added benefit of being brother in law to the President and that's also obviously been a boost to recruiting. Personally, I'm most excited by the fact that he showed up and coached a downtrodden team into a team that plays hard every minute. And, has upset more than a couple quality teams.
Surprisingly I think it's pretty split. It seems like the "cooler" thing to do is be a Ducks fan though, at least it used to
I would expect a lot more Oregon Ducks fans just because they seem like a "bigger" school and have a lot of money invested in athletics. The Ducks no doubt have a larger fan base outside of Oregon compared to the Beavers.
Nike U. They have it a lot easier usually in getting recruits, Oregon State is pretty damn good about getting 2 star guys in football that turn into big time guys
I believe the # of students (probably not the manner in which you meant) it's PSU first, OSU and UO almost equal. PSU has a lot of grad students though (almost a 4th of their students are grad students). Also interesting at least according to Wiki, is that OSU has a staff of almost 3K vs 1700 for UO (PSU has about 2300).
When I said bigger I meant to say better known. UO is a pretty known school across the US. All the money they get from Nike certainly helps them. To many, OSU is just another one of those schools usually in the bottom of the Pac-10.
More Duck fans. As Fizzle said, the people who dont have any ties to one of the schools seem to choose the Ducks because people always tend to jump on bandwagons.
OSU is a big time research university, with a land, sea, space and sun grant designation. The only school to have that combination (there may be another now, I'm not certain). So that's probably the reason for having more employees. I don't think the professor to student ratio is that much different that it would be responsible for that large of a difference in staffing.
