    Great stuff!

    I'm a Blazer fan though.

You may have been confused because I don't hate the players on my team, fly off the handle every time we lose, have an anti blazer avatar, think our championship window was slammed shut today or hate the GM....

    Easy mistake.

OK, so the OP was exagerated and over-the-top. Doesn't change the fact that his underlying point is valid. At some point, this team needs to stop thinking about "next year" and start thinking about now.

    No it isn't.

It's the shortest of short sightedness.

"Now" sees a team exceeding expectations and slotted in the 4th spot. I'm pretty sure they are thinking about "now".

OK...but doesn't that assume that Oden isn't really hurt?

As inconsistent as he has been, the team is still better with him than without him. If he is going to miss any significant amount of time, the failure to make a deal clearly signals that the team is not thinking about this season.

    This is the truth.

Oden will miss the next two games, and will likely not go on the following road trip. This fact, plus Bayless not playing anymore, means that the only player on the team capable of putting pressure on opposing defenses will be Brandon Roy. I am not sure how much more of a pounding he can take before he starts to break down. If a deal could have brought on someone else to share that burden, and KP didn't take it, then he is clearly not thinking about this season at all.

That's my philosophy, and I have to say it has worked out rather well so far.

All this over a bone chip? As most have said, if he's not going to make it any worse, there's no sense in shutting him down, which would have all sorts of confidence repercussions on Oden himself but also his team and the fanbase. They have an opportunity to be a Cinderella team this year, to be the upset in a series against, say, a healthy Jazz or Spurs. Building that cohesiveness, even if they inevitably lose the West, doesn't make a bit of difference if they get far. A very young team like the Blazers absolutely needs some semi-deep playoff exposure. If they get to the 2nd round consider that a great success, especially if beat a good team like the Jazz in the 1st round and remain competitive in the Semis. I think it's clear they know they aren't the best team in the league, but I also think it's clear they know they have all the tools to be the best, every ingredient to do it. Internal growth and maturity is the final missing piece. That is, Roy at least knows that. Oden, I'm not so sure what his psychological makeup is yet. Roy is clearly a special kind of player, stud in the making, be very thankful for that guy.

The team wants you to EXPECT to experience a playoff game too. Thats why they billed us already for our playoff tickets and are requesting the money in advance.

This is the first I've heard about any kind of surgery and needing to shut him down. I hope that's not true.

Oden will only get better by playing, and the team will only get better by playing together. This season matters because with every game each young player gains experience for themselves and growing together as a team. Every game counts.

Shut him down so that we have even more excuses for him when he returns and underperforms?

This is ridiculous! To the best of my knowledge, NONE of us are doctors, and NONE of us have examined Oden's knee. It could just be fluid, or a bad bruise, who knows? Since we don't, why don't we just let the medical staff make decisions, in consultation with player and team?

I'd let Oden rest and then send him to the D-League to dominate scrubs after rehabbing the knee. I bet the coach of the D-League team would actually structure the offense around getting him touches unlike Nate.

Oden's fine. What's the big deal about a bone chip? seriously, let the swelling go down from the knee-knock, put a pad on it, rub some fucking beer on it, and lets get him back out there. After the season's over, he can get the chip sand-papered down so its smooth and find the loose chip floating around.

Shit, Kobe and Brandon play with torn lig's in their fingers FFS. The 7-footer should be able to muscle thru this shit.

Let me just say that good god Soda you are freaking the fuck out. It was an accidental play, and an injury that is NOT THAT SERIOUS. It happens, he has to miss a few games. This is the reason we should be thankful for Joel, he can step right in and fill Oden's hole for a few games.
