Did anyone see this on blazersedge.com?

Crapzano stupidly thinks the Blazers can make a deal with Raef's contract after the trading deadline!

Then, when he finds out he doesn't know crap, he completely edits his blog to remove ANY evidence of what he originally wrote. And then in the comments sections of his blog, when he is questioned about the issue, he blames the Blazers telling him the wrong information.

Man this guy is an idiot. And then when he can't even admit when he's wrong, he trys to blame the Blazers.

    What a freakin' tool!

This shouldn't be any surprise at all. He's been corrected multiple times in the past and has changed his blog without mentioning the wrong facts he put in there and changes it to the correct information that he got from readers in his comments sections. He's even deleted the comments correcting him before but still uses the information without acknowledging he used it at all.

Of course you realize this is the same man who told Quick we were hiring Iavaroni - then blamed the Blazers for not being open enough in the hiring process with the media when it turned out to be wrong. Dead serious about that one.

The guy is human and made a mistake. It is funny to me when people get so freaking angry when a sports columnist makes an error and he or she is bashed forever. I'm sure you guys make mistakes at work every once in a while, but Canzano isn't there to point them out and yell at you.

Since I made the same mistake yesterday, I guess I'd better say that I think Canzano was talking about the period between the end of the Blazers' season and the end of the NBA fiscal year on June 30. Teams are free to trade players again during that period and they do it based on this season's salaries. However, ending contracts are specifically prohibitted from being traded during this period, as are contracts where the player has an opt out for the next season. I'd forgotten that and apparently JC did too. Given the complexities of the CBA, I have to cut him some slack on this one.

Doesn't mean he isn't a tool for many other reasons.

i don't think the problem here is that he made a mistake, it's that he tried to cover up the mistake with no fessing up to it. most people wouldn't have a problem if he'd edit his entry to say he screwed up and here is the real story, instead he edits his blog and his comment to the guy and gives no mention to him being wrong. reporters screw up quite often, it's why there are corrections in the newspaper/mags. that said, some people wouldn't give him any rope though cause he does come off like a douche from time to time.

    Now THAT is funny.

John Canzano has built his rep on being a mudslinger pointing and yelling about every mistake or misstep made by the Blazers, Ducks and sometimes even the Beavers no matter how big or small.

agreed in a way, though just about everyone on here could've told you that RLEC was untradable after the deadline. There's other obscure cap rules where I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but this was pretty simple.

This is the same moron that made fun of the Beavers Basketball team having a decent season by saying they played Women's Basketball. What a dick.

The guy is paid to inform his readership. When he spreads incorrect information, he's not doing his job. If this was an isolated incident, I'd be willing to cut him some slack. But, it's not. It seems like everytime he writes anything about the salary cap or CBA, he gets basic facts wrong. It's not really rocket science.

Thanks to Larry Coon's FAQ, and other online resources, correct, accurate information is readily available. To not take advantage of these resouces, and continually make the same types of mistakes, is poor journalism.

I don't have to, or expect to, agree with all his opinions, but when his opinions are based on false assumptions and inaccurate information, it's hard to take them seriously.

As a journalism major as well, I think Canzano gets a raw deal sometimes too. He even admits that if you try to agree with all of his opinions, there's something wrong with you so I think even he doesn't believe everything he says. He knows his job is to create discussion -- sometimes controversy -- and he does it well.

But his strength is being a columnist and not a reporter. He's a great storyteller, and when he wants to, can write some really great human-interest pieces and has a knack of getting into really good details in his stories.

But it's when he gets into salary cap stuff and the technical side of the NBA, he gets a little lazy in his fact-checking. The RLEC is a pretty obvious one to the average fan. And when I hear him on the radio, trying to talk about base-year compensation or stuff like that, you can tell he's stumbling or trying to look up what it means.
I don't hate the guy as much as some do. He just does his job of creating discussion pretty well, and has pretty thick skin and doesn't care if people hate him in a weird, twisted mixum-sort of way

What you call "creating discussion" others would call "trolling". If you want to read a good sports columnist who doesn't have to resort to cheap tactics, read Tom Boswell. In fact, I'm not wholly unconvinced MIXUM isn't Canzano.

I'm not saying Canzano is the best columnist of all-time, but since people still link to him, talk about him, listen to his radio show and read his columns, I'd say he's doing exactly what he's been paid to do whether you hate him or not. He doesn't care whatsoever either.

And certainly, there have been columnists that didn't have to resort to giving off unpopular opinions. There are a ton of great sportswriters and columnists out there. Canzano has simply found his niche, and probably won't be leaving this area anytime soon whether people like it or not.

I wish John nothing but increased success. Hopefully a paper in a larger city will take note of his large following and hire him. As for the people of Portland, we deserve better. Sean Hannity is popular too, but that doesn't mean he produces quality product.
