There's no question that Shannon is ahead, but Sun's got a huge advantage in terms of height and the position he plays. Once he gets used to the NBA game, he can take advantage of other point guards with his height alone.
I don't know how much stronger he can get. He has a very thin frame. I think putting on weight might be an issue for him. His joints, ya know?
I honestly don't think Sun will ever make it in the NBA. He's got a really, really thin frame, which is going to make it tough for him to bulk up, both muscle wise and weight wise. And quite frankly, if he can't bulk up, he's not going to make it. At his current state, he's just too small (weight/muscle wise, obviously) to play in the NBA.
Remmeber when Kobe entered the league? he was as skinny as Sun... im sure he's got what it takes to bulk up...
Kobe wasn't 6'7, 6'8 and didn't have a long and lengthy body type. Yue doesn't have the body type add bulk to.
Have you guys seen Dwight Howard in his high school years? He was thin as hell. Even now, his legs are still thin. It's still possible to bulk up, imo.
^ But compared to his early years, he bulked up quite a bit more. I think its possible, I guess we'll have to see how hard Sun Yue works.
Seems like we're the only ones in this thread who think that though. As for Dwight....uhhh...you call that a thin frame? The dude came in to the league and was already pretty strong. PLUS he was an athletic freak. Sun came in to the league super weak and he's not what I'd call a supreme athlete. I don't know why you guys can't see it. Sun has no real chance to ever be a productive NBA player. He's too thin, too tiny, lacks athleticism (which is almost a need if you're not a pure shooter anymore), has very little upper body strength...I just can't see him making it. I'd love to see him prove me wrong...but I don't think he will.
I'm going to assume Ahlian is Asian (sorry if I'm wrong), and I think that is one of the reasons why he thinks Sun Yue will be productive, but I don't see it either.
People's bodies are different than others. Like already mentioned, Dwight had a frame to bulk up, I don't see that with Sun. Also take into consideration that he's Asian. It's harder for Asians to put on muscle mass than let's say, African Americans (no offense or anything, but that's true).
Good point. I forgot genetics. It is harder for Asians to bulk up than blacks and whites, etc... Blacks are born bulky, I swear.
Pau Gasol isn't the bulkiest guy, Europeans own the league in very different fashions which has always interested me.
I am Asian but that is not really why I think Sun can be productive. I don't think he will ever be a good player in the NBA, although I think he may be able to make the Lakers rotation in the next few years since Derek will be declining and that opens up a PG spot. His height really does pose a huge advantage for him if he is able to get used to the pace and intensity of the NBA game. There are thin players in this league that excel based on other areas, take for example, Kevin Durant. Now, I know Sun isn't near as athletic, but it shows that speed can make up for some weakness in terms of strength.
I don't like seeing a frame or potential to bulk up as an excuse, Europeans join pro teams early and maximize their gifts so I respect that. Sun Yue looks terrible, but I have no idea if he can get better or not.
