I don't get why people kvetch about the lack of "name" fighters on a card like this. There were some darn entertaining fights, and it was free! BTW, am I the only one who felt the refs were rather quick on the trigger tonight? The seemed unusually quick to stand the fighters up, as well as stopping the fights.
Yeah, there were a couple times that I thought it was too early. Like the Koscheck for example. Other than that I thought they were okay
The Koscheck fight was stopped very premature IMO. Koscheck was rocked, no doubt, but he wasn't out. He recovered rather quickly. Terrible stoppage.
It was an early stoppage but you never know, Thiago could've landed two or three clean shots in Koscheck's guard and put him in the hospital.
I thought UFC 95 was a great event. I don't need the biggest names to be on the card, I need to see good fights. Beyond the so-so stoppages I enjoyed every fight on the card. I do think the UFC is placing an emphasis on safe stoppages as they try to gain acceptance in more states in the U.S. and countries around the world. I prefer to give a fighter a chance to recover as some of the best fights ever included a fighter getting in serious trouble and then coming back to win the fight, but if that's the reason the UFC is asking refs to stop it as soon as someone is in danger then I kinda understand. If that's not the reason.. bleh, it's something I don't like.
I thought it was a good stoppage. Its important to think about the fighters, and even if Josh did recover, it was already too late. He would have been pounded out like a dead dog. He was clueless as to where he was when he hit the canvas. A few more blows to the head would have done nothing but extend his painful loss. That uppercut followed by the hook was brutal. He needs to look at the tapes and realize the ref saved his life!! haha.
I didn't think Koscheck was disoriented. He looked fine once he gathered his senses. Oh well. Fights over.
About the main event. Joe Stevenson needs to change training camps, he needs to diversify his skills desperatly. He's just a high level gatekeeper at this point. Beat Joe Daddy and you're 1-2 fights away from a title shot IMO. Diego shouldn't be too pleased with his win, Kenny and BJ were able to destroy Joe and not let him get anything going. Diego was slightly better than Joe due to his very good practice of mixing up his kicks and punches. That won't be enough vs Kenny, Sherk or BJ IMO.
Josh Koscheck is constantly being referred to as a young fighter? There is a difference between being young and being inexperienced. He's neither. He'll be 32-years old in 2009. He's older than Quinton Jackson. I'm not sure why everyone thinks he has so much room for improvement.
Despite his success against Troy "Rude Boy" Mandaloniz, or "Brood Roy" as Goldy pronounced it at one point during their fight, Paul "Tellys" Kelly is dropping to lightweight.
