...and just going with some type of hd/vhf/uhf antenna. Other than the cost of the antenna, free all the way around.

Anyone else done this? Are there a "decent" selection of local Portland channels? I realize that I'll be giving up a lot of viewing choices, but tough economic times call for tough econimic measures.

    Thanks,

    ABM

KPTV, KATU, KGW, KOIN, KOPB, the Cancels Welcomed, and "my network" are all OTA.

I thought you lived in Atlanta?

You won't be seeing many Blazer games that way.
It's probably wiser to get Comcast and give up food.

If you call and bitch at dish they will cut you a sweet deal. Just make sure you have your list of bitch topics ready. My personal one is no local ABC due to dispute with KATU, no CSN for Blazer games, and too high of prices in general. One of my friends did that and he was even able to get them throw in extra receivers for the rooms in his house that didn't have them for free. He did have to send in mail in rebates, but they were free in the end.

Is it windy in Portland? The reason I ask is because wind has a way of screwing with the DTV, on really windy days you might not be able to get a signals at all for some channels, and if it's slightly windy the signal will go in and out which is annoying as hell because you don't see or hear anything for several seconds, it just freezes.

We have 11 digital channels here in Wichita, and on windy days, if I'm lucky, I can get one channel that doesn't go in and out every 20-30 seconds.

It might be worth it to get very basic cable just to save yourself the annoyances associated with DTV.

So long as you can get feeds of the Blazers & Ducks, you can certainly 'ditch the dish'.

Or, as barfo suggests, just quit on food.

Sure, we can gather 'round the Gateway laptop and cheer the team on.

I could live without cable. Can't live without Blazer games though and I'm not going to watch Blazer playoff runs off my fucking computer. screw that. If I lived in PDX though, I'd be able to watch games live and at sports bars though....cable TV is terrible. There is nothing redeeming about any of it. Its a bunch of crap.

    Thanks, julius. I appreciate that.

As a start, I'll be selling energy-efficient windows on the commercial side for my nephew's business. We'll see how that goes. For now, we just want to get out there.

I actually built this contraption yesterday. I was surprised at how good this puppy works. Pulling in eight Atlanta stations in crystal clear high-def. :pimp:

I ditched Dish and went to Direct TV. Saved $27 a month.

I had Dish for awhile, until we realized it sucked and went to Direct. What was I thinking? Dish is garbage compared to Direct.
