    What exactly is this 'religion'?

Was this really invented in the 1950's? How does a cult receive so much credibility?

Here is a former member that quit the Church a few years ago, actor Jason Beghe. He was their "poster boy" for a long time. This video "put the nail in the coffin" for one of my friends finally leaving the church too. I was more than glad to help him find the video. It's 2 hours but the guy is very interesting to listen to.

It's less of a religion and more of a self-help type philosophy. There is no church. They don't congregate like Christians. The main point of their religion is that the reason we feel so bad in our lives is because we are inhabited by the souls of dead aliens. I'm not kidding. The Scientology process helps you get rid of them. There are a bunch of levels that you attain along the way and each one costs money.

Scientology was invented by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard, allegedly as a get-rich-quick scheme. His most famous work was probably "Battlefield Earth." His books aren't very good, but they are all best sellers, because he required early scientologists to buy them. Over time, the religion of scientology evolved as more and more people "joined" and moved up in the hierarchy. The basic premise is that we have to purge ourselves of negative energy in order to live healthy, fruitful, lives, and this is accomplished through some sessions with a psychiatrist-like helper and some fake technology. At some point, though, as members started to reach the end of the process, he came up with a brilliant idea: We are all reincarnated many times from four billion year old aliens called "thetans," and we have to "clear" our past lives also. The church of scientology is considered a cult in some countries and has been banned in Germany. They specifically target celebrities in order to give themselves some P.R. I think the pianist Chick Corea is a scientologist, also. It's pretty fascinating stuff, from what-will-someone-think-of-next and what-anyone-will-believe standpoints.

Good question. How do these cults gain so much credibility. Christianity. Islam. Voodoo. You name it. They are all cults. Some are just much bigger than others.

So do these celbs; Tom Cruse, Will Smith, Beck, John Trovolta, all publicly proclaim there is no god/Jesus/ect?

Is there any real difference between these loony tunes and the Heavens Gate cult?

Tom's remark that "I need to take the "spectators" and either get them on the playing field or out of the arena is how Scientology views non-believers.

Accept us or we will kill you.

This is expressed in their "Fair Game Policy" which states: An enemy of Scientology "May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed ."

Tom clearly suffers from "Little-man" syndrome.
