Northeastern Tight End Brian Mandeville was sent home from the NFL Combine after doctors diagnosed a heart condition that could threaten his life if he continued to play football or lift weights. Mandeville's abnormal valve is not considered life threatening if he retires, and he is expected to live a normal life.

As much as that must suck to bust your ass your whole life to reach a dream and then be told you can't pursue it right as you reach the pinnacle, he is lucky they found it when they did....It would have been nice to see him get drafted and paid a bit before he had to retire though....

Yea that sucks really bad for him. I would hate for someone to say that I couldnt do something I loved, and to get invited to the NFL Combine makes it a little worse because he could have been good enough to play in the NFL.

Is it something they could fix with surgery and after a period of time he could play?

I'm not a doctor, I just play one on the internet, but from what I have read, he suffers from an enlarged heart valve....it is only life threatening if he engages in strenuous activities like playing pro-football or lifting heavy weights....he doesnt need surgery to be safe, so its unlikely anyone would operate on it....I doubt a team would even sign him now, no one wants to cart a dead tight end off the field....I do not think the NFL is a reasonable option for him anymore...
