We're getting desperate for government revenue down here in Cali. It is a damn joke. We already have some of the highest tax rates, some of the highest profits and incomes on which those taxes get paid, and we still can't come close to balancing the budget.
I can't wait until May 1st. Its one of those state worker furlough days + its the "day without a mexican" where the mexicans all skip work in protest for immigration rights or something. There will be NO traffic on the freeways!!!!
Kind of a side note, but the topic reminded me of this chart I stumbled into the other day: http://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/a...ore_popular_than_key_conservative_leaders.php
welfare, octamoms and 6 billion to fund stem cell research (which shouldn't have to fall solely on california taxpayers). oh yeah, also our state legislators are going around the fucking world. look up fabian nunez, that fool was ballin' it up on the state's dime. i'll dig up the artipcle
Well if you want stem cell research in your state, Californians have to pay for it. That's the way it goes. Nobody from other states is going to have to pay for it. It will pay off in the long run though because now those businesses will be based there. At least a few of them will make it, much like Pharmeceutical companies of the past.
http://articles.latimes.com/2007/oct/05/local/me-nunez5 this is typical of california politics. fucking scumbags.
I voted against it. There is little accountability and was done purely based on the hype at the time. Taxpayers shouldn't be funding private, for profit companies and allowing them to set up shop. $6 billlion dollar bond over 10 years. ridiculous. meanwhile, hospitals left and right are closing due to bad management and lack of funding.
Yea well considering that no other states were offering funding, California basically gave themselves a monopoly on that industry, which IMO was a great move. Those businesses will make it, and they will be as profitable as pharmaceutical companies. That in the end will be good for the state. They also weren't directly funding the businesses. They were funding research. The only restriction was it had to take place in California. The government has been funding research of various types for years, this is nothing new.
If a business thinks its a good business, they should fund it themselves, not the California taxpayer. In the end, this is fucking over the state which is out of money and spending themselves into hell. Look at the current situation for the state. This was passed over 4 years ago already (prop 71). Great job at stimulating the economy, eh? The problem with things like Stem Cell Research and "green energy", something that California is trying to be pioneers in, is that it is impractical, costs a shitload of money..but in the eyes of most of california, its them being progressive for the sake of being progressive. So the state issues loans, bonds, tax incentives and all of that for basically technologies that are not-profitable, too expensive, not developed, and are basically "feel good social mesures". Look at solar energy, do you know how fucking expensive it is to set up one of those systems? You won't get to recoup your costs for like 20 years....its a microcosm of california, it really is. Its the most fucked state right now, and I blame spending on these types of programs as well as the amount of welfare paid out by the state.
Weed is another example. Its trying yet again to be a "social pioneer" here. While it will generate tax revenue, its just the general attitude of california which keeps on getting itself fucked more and more into debt. Its so obsessed with being so socially responsible, they don't take the bottom line into consideration.
speak of the devil.... http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=av6QSiI5BuOI&refer=us yeah yeah yeah, federally funded likely but shit..there goes another $273 million fucking dollars!
...they actually breed different strains that make you feel WIRED, rather than mellowed out and lazy [it is great for the day time and any other activities!]
...no lacing needed. It is in the chemical make-up of the bud itself. As mgb said, the Sativa strains are the ones that give you the upper feelings...pretty incredible stuff really...science and technology is incredible!!!
