I don't know. Sometimes I think he's trolling, sometimes his frustration seems real. I fully understand why someone would think he was a troll but, if he is one, he's been remarkably persistent and durable and without ever seeming to take a bit of glee or satisfaction in attention. In other words, if he's a troll (and he might be), he's a pretty unique one, IMO. I'm not insisting that he isn't a troll. I'm saying that without fairly clear evidence, I don't think it's reasonable to ban someone. Also, my own experience is that I have no real trouble "ignoring" him (not literally using the feature, but letting his opinion roll past me without interest), so I suppose I can't resonate to the claims that it is impossible to ignore him and enjoy the forum.
Ed's given you a pretty good answer. I'll go a little deeper in mine. We once banned a poster because he was unpopular, and basically got/gets the same kind of reaction as MIXUM from many. We were told that it would increase posting and other activity on the boards. It didn't have any effect at all, and all we really ended up doing was banning a guy who actually acted like a gentleman in the face of a lot of flak and who really was/has been posting here with good intentions. If you think a guy is a troll, the ignore feature isn't all you can do about it. Really ignore the guy. If he's out to get a rise out of people, then people who RESPOND to him/her are only fanning the flames (so to speak). I would think that a guy would only get worse if he's feeding off this kind of thing. If we're convinced a poster is a troll, we have no problem dealing with that appropriately. Unpopular opinions or even negativity are hard for us to want to squash. For me, particularly being a Chicago sports fan - I expect my teams to lose (they almost always do), and when they win it's a real shock/pleasant surprise. As long as nobody's causing problems throughout the site, I'm going to facilitate the mods as to what they need done. You elected them. Talk to them via PM or a public thread about how to make the board better for you all. My $.02
Man, I got to tell you, I just don't get it. Mixum is comedy. If you don't see it or appreciate it, I understand. That you get worked up over it - something you could just read past - which is what I do most of the time. Read past him or block him. What is so hard about doing that?
I just want to say I'm not trying to campaign to get MIXUM banned. I was just thinking about how many posters complain about him or say they try to ignore them and likened the situation to a bar: if a regular at a bar is obnoxious and annoying to most of the other customers, whether he's breaking the rules or not, wouldn't the owner want to get rid of him? Wouldn't the owners of this website want to do the same with MIXUM? That was my question to the mods, who have answered it the best they can. But as Ed O pointed out, they aren't the ones who get paid. The ones who do are the ones who can answer my question. So I'm content to have my question go unanswered and to continue enjoying the parts of the board I like the best.
You were answered by one of the (several) owners. Most of the owners are posters here, we want a great site to post at for ourselves, too.
I'm certain everyone remembers at least a couple of Patriots fans they knew that were still complaining in the middle of their perfect run. Some people can't be pleased.
Yeah, spot on. That is what it was. So I REALLY do not think he ever intended to get carter. Thank God too. And about MIXUM, we just have to make the commitment as a community to skip over his posts. If he doesn't get the attention he craves he will eventually realize there is no reason to continue posting to talk to himself. I'd like to see a thread started by MIXUM with no replies at all. I think that would frustrate him more than constantly being owned and complained about (I think he likes the latter, the former... IDK why he doesn't back up his claims... but that is what got me thinking that he IS probably a troll that simply looks for a response). I think that he is a Blazer fan, but I don't think he neccessarily posts with sincere intentions. I also think that we should constantly make bets with him (I know this goes against the not responding to him) about him not showing up for a week, or a month, or for the summer if we win a game, make the playoffs, etc... Anyway...
Oh, I see. So, I guess I don't understand your problem. Read past him. Don't respond to his posts. Read other posters posts. Respond to other posters posts. Enjoy the site.
I don't really have a problem. I do skip this site sometimes when I don't feel like reading a bunch of negative posts. I was just curious how the mods/owners of the site view the mixum situation. Thanks for the advice though.
1 thing about mixum, is he can sure can take personal attacks. if you join the board today you probably think mixum is the second coming of hitler the way you guys complain. if you dont like his opinions on basketball its fine, but just because he has a different view is no reason for him to get banned.
He takes attacks because he's a gimmick poster who is here just so he can antagonize a group of fans that are dedicated enough to spend a chunk of their time rooting on the Blazers. He could careless about personal attacks as long as he can get his little quips in about the team. Its kind of funny when we beat a good teams soundly and he's nowhere to be seen. But we lose to an average team and he claims KP and staff are running this team into the ground. Its so apparent that he's not a fan and that people take him seriously around here that its comical.
